At this point if the dealer hands you back the truck I would be asking for 100k/ 8 year warranty. Once the top end of the engine comes off, re assembly doesn't always come back perfectly...

... When I bought my2015 a month before the 2016 came out my wife looked at me like I was a mad man. I simply said I don't want to deal with first year production headaches. It sucks for the OP and everyone else with issues but first year production problems are common with any make. Wether or not they are to the point of engine failures is a different story. Good luck OP, nothing is more frustrating and for me, takes away from the joy of ownership.

Aren't there issues with this same crank sensor in other Toyota models? Thought I read or heard something to that effect.

So... Got my truck back this morning...

    Good and bad news:

The good: It sounds better than it did before the issue and it seems to be more responsive - but haven't had it off-road or on the highway yet, but I think it may be better then when new, so the problem may have been there since it was built.

The bad: Dealer says that they can't do anything for me except fix it. They gave me Toyota's number, and said that maybe they can extend my warranty, replace the truck, etc. So I call Toyota. They say that there is nothing they can do, but the dealer should be able to help, and that I should talk to the customer relationship manager. Typical deflection techniques. I guess I'll try to call that person later.

So... What did they find? Well, it wasn't the Crankshaft Position Sensor. They did the following:
    1. Replaced the camshaft gear assembly
    2. Replaced the cam solenoid assembly
    3. Replaced the cylinder head gasket
    4. Replaced the fuel pump gasket
    5. Dropped the oil pan to check for any foreign debris, but didn't find any
    6. Replaced the oil pan gasket.
Does anyone know if this will show up on a Carfax report? If it will, I plan to be a little more aggressive with the customer relationship manager.

Download the Toyota owners app. If the details show there then it will show on a Carfax too. Good news bad news. The good news. If you call corporate and stay calm and courteous they should give you an extended warranty. The bad news. You may need to use the warranty.

I've been offered the extended warranty from corporate. I have a fundamental problem with the extended warranty if they can't fully repair issues or won't fully repair issues under warranty. I'm having this problem with my leaf springs. They're telling me there's an issue on both sides from corporate and from the dealership yet they told me also they can't authorize a fix or repair. That's a problem to me

That is what I tried, but they told me that since I already had the warranty extended (I got a 75K/6 year Toyota Care Plus through the dealer when I bought it), that they couldn't extend it again.

I may just be rolling dice at this point...

When I went to buy a Certified pre-owned BMW I asked to see the dealer service records for the VIN. It showed me all of the maintenance and warranty work done.

Update... 47 miles after getting my truck back, it has broke down again with the same symptoms. ToyotaCare has just dispatched a wrecker. I'm thinking new truck at this point.

After 5 days I got my truck back today with a diagnosis / repair of crankshaft position sensor. Truck died in traffic, in the rain....with no cell phone. Would start after about 5 minutes and run about 20 ft. Three times finally got me out of traffic. I'm not convinced as yet they got it right. Off-Road or pulling a camper this would NOT be good! 2600 miles. They did apply the trans TSB, and I'm not certain but seems a little better in all shifting related aspects.
