Mike do you partake in search and rescue in Washington county? Curious about it.. the website really makes it seem like it's only for kids

Nope, they don't have SAR for this county. If you are lost, you probably just get pronounced dead.
I saw the thing about the kids, and there's no way I'm signing up to be a teacher for that. That's not one of my character strengths.

Same. Kids are not my forte.

Talked a bit with a family member that does it in WA, going on 30 years and is a current president.

Sucks there is nothing to get into here

There isn't any bad camping in Oregon that I know of.
Just pick your poison desert around bend up in the mountains. You can drive and camp on certain dunes in OR to so that mite be cool for you if you've never been on big dunes. You can rent cabins at winchester bay at the edge of the dunes.
Rouge brewery in Newport has bomb fish in chips and cheese soup. Lol I'm not actually much on craft beer but if u are u like that to.
There are pig n pancake restaurants up and down the coast bomb breakfast.
Up around Astoria in believe in Stevens there is an old fort that's kinda cool.
    Have fun

Washington County does have SAR. It's very active. :)

Not "anyone," per say, but it would fall into a volunteer role since its mandated that the Sheriff has a SAR team.

You must be talking about the Explorer program. It's a part of SAR as it is a mentoring group as well and the kids love climbing in the mountains.

Tell me more, because I can't find anything other than Explorer Post 877 geared for ages 14-21, or those coordinating/teaching.

Explorer program is very worthy and I fully appreciate the strenuous obligation it is to be a ground SAR, but I am more interested in a mobile unit similar to what I came from. I'm very surprised to see less activity than Thurston County, which had two mobile units, a ground unit, an ARRL unit, and a K-9 unit. They had a mounted patrol as well, but I think that disbanded.

    We can chat for sure!

I may have missed your background and what you're looking to do. Are you talking about being deployed on callouts like Mountain Wave?

Mike, you are good with words.

I was wondering if @kitsym knew something about it, looks like he does!

Ill be selling my bed rack if anyone with a first gen is interested. Ill get some pics up soon.

Extends over the roof. Used it with my toolbox. Had a rtt on top no issues. Roof portion holds over 200lbs. Untested for more. Thats just the heaviest person thats stood on it.

    Made by a local, Tyler.

after a run of getting shitty fab work from reputable vendors on tw, this rack made my dreams.

Only selling because truck plans have changed. Two dogs dont fit in the access cav very well. Going with a closed bed of some sort.

Mike, look into Mountain Wave. They help with SAR on Mt. Hood. They specialize in radios and helpmout with radio traffic for both AMR RATS and PMR

Hey! I already mentioned them. ;)

Looks like he went AWOL though after asking. Maybe he got lost on a mountain intentionally...

I'll have to check it out, see where the meetings and such are held. I'd join with Tillamook County if it wouldn't take me 2 hours just to get to a meeting :p

They sometimes hold meetings closer off Hwy 6 at the forestry center since a majority of their members also volunteer in Multnomah/Clackamas.

I'll send feelers out to both once I get the truck taken care of.

My background is that I did Thurston County Sheriff's Jeep Patrol with @Benson X for... 3 years? 4?
Yep, we did call-outs for ground searches, mobile searches. We operated with VHF on some ancient radios with a horse trailer as the comm base because that's all we had, lol. It was nice when we could team with the ground team (WESAR) and use their RV.

Don't waste your time with feelers.

Let me know when you're ready and I'll get you in touch with the right folks.
