How does a manual MCCT fail? Leakage you mean?
I have had 2 stock tensioner failures on Honda CRFs, one of them allowed the chain to slip several teeth and pop went the motor, brand new 488 kit too! Ouch. Only manual tensioners for me, I usually modify the stock ones to manually operation, I dont trust those springs anymore.

With your bad O-ring couldnt you have just put on a stock gasket instead or on top of to stop the leak?

Sheesh I need to go riding, its been a week and a half! Im having withdrawals already.

BTW anybody looking to buy a CRF450r? I have a ported high compression 06' with black plastics and an 08' that is set up for Baja or long distance stuff with about 10,000 mods, lol.

Really been eyeballing those new Yamaha YZ250X 2 strokes, but they forgot the electric start and the 300 kit!! Cmon Yamaha!!! Maybe next year?? :fingerscrossed:

Was just simpler to swap it out than worry about another failure.

I know the oem gaskets can fail too, but i can get them by the dozen

Friend at firehouse has a CRF 150F for sale, our mechanic friend just cleaned out the carbs and it's running great (took it for a quick test ride), only thing it will need is a new chain and general clean up I think.

He wants to put it in CL for ~$1500, he asked me $1200 since I told him I was interested, and he's giving me a couple days to think about it before posting.

I have been wanting a little dirt bike to take on trails and this would certainly fit the bill.

My impulse tells me to buy it but not sure. What you guys think? CL and eGay has other CRF's for $1100-1400.

Sounds like a sweet little bike to blast around trails on. If he's the kind 9f person that takes care of his stuff I'd do it, you know that that one's running right. The ones on Craigslist will be a mystery.

A CRF 150 is kind of a small bike for an adult male. I would hold off and save some money up for something that will fit you more comfortably. Just my 2 cents.

I agree. Hold out for a bigger 4 stroke or find a 2 stroke.

It was another firehouse friend's and it sat for like two years but this other friend bought it to repair and flip. It has new tires and like I said, our firehouse mechanic friend fixed it up and it seems to be running great.

I am 5' 7" and 175# so I'm not a huge guy. I just want this as a fun little bike to bomb around some trails with. I rode a Yamaha 125 in the GW Forest for my brother's bachelor party and it was a blast. You guys don't think 150 is enough, especially as a offroad only bike for something fun? I am also pretty much brand new to dirt riding with the exception of above so I think I would probably kill myself on a 2 stroke...

I would probably flip it if I get better in the dirt but I like learning on smaller things first, as evidenced by my current bike. Sure it sounds like I'm trying to justify it to myself but just thinking out loud for your guys' advice.

Eh I think it'd be small and be easy to outgrow.

All my dirt experience is from my SM, so it's not like you can't learn on a bigger bike as well.

I have ridden dirt bikes since I was a young kid. I think the 150 is going to be too small. I've seen them used by mostly kids, they were classed with the 80cc 2 strokes when I used to race desert races. I wouldnt recommend you get a 2 stroke for your first dirt scoot, but instead look into either a 250cc four stroke or a 450cc 4 stroke. Both will have ample power and neither will be too powerful as long as you can control your wrist.

If your talking about a 125 2 stroke then that thing is way faster and more power full then a crf150.

I would what for something bigger. 150 bike like that is going to be a little small. Not saying you couldn't have fun but I would spend the money on something bigger.

The bad thing is that I hear all your advice and it all makes sense, but I still want it  I still think I would have a lot of fun regardless of speed, especially since it will be in dirt and I don't care so much about ripping ass through trails. I also have the $1200 to spend pretty easily so it wouldn't be that bad...

Would probably spend the money for a dual sport helmet though.

I also heard the same things when I was going to buy my 300 as far as speed and power, and I still have a ton of fun on my bike even a year later...

Been on several rides now. No leaking on the new MCCT and none of my solders on the new tail light have broken. Very pleased! :D
