    Hi all,

So I'm interested in getting a camper shell, and I looked through a lot of the camper shell posts. I noticed that most had the shell mounted to the bed rail system. My 07 Tacoma DCSB doesn't have the bed rail system so I was wondering if I can install a camper shell without the rails or if I would have to get some? Also would it be different for different camper shell brands? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I thought the rails were standard? I don't think clamps work, you might be able to bolt through the top of the bed...

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I bought the truck used - private seller, so maybe he had removed them at some point.

Looks like I'll have to go junkyard hunting for them since I don't want to be drilling into the bed like the old days. Or find some place that sells them. I called a local dealer and the guy said he couldn't find it in their parts catalog...

Just to make sure we were talking about the same thing,

The rails I'm missing are the long rails on the side of the bed where you can attach those tie down cleats or what not. I'm missing the two on each side of my bed. I do have one at the front of the bed though.

Ooh, Great. Thanks a bunch Static.

I was looking at that as well. I'll try to contact them to confirm since there's no picture. I don't wanna hassle you so no need to contact that other guy. Thanks again!

If that $30 part is all you need then toyota is full of donkey shit!! They quoted me over $500 in parts for the slider systems. Im making my own rails to mount my topper.

Wow just called trdparts and my toyota dealer is about to get and ear full! Those are the rails you need and $60 is no where near $500 if you hear on the news someone throwing a table inside Mtn states toyota in Denver its me!

Drilling?? Why would you need to drill the bed if you don't use the rail system? Most every shell I've had on a truch just had C-clamps that held the lip of the bed to the lip of the shell. Am I missing something?

Go look at the bed rails on the new tacomas the c clamp will not mount flat and they dont seem strong enough to hold a topper on. I tried, but I was going to build my own mounts until I found out that the rails are only $60.

I've always had great luck with Stevinson West. Their parts guys are always willing to deal.

I have never had a problem up until now with mtn states the AAL TSB was painless, a few other small things that went very smooth. But $500 for a $60 part really gets me LIVID and they will be hearing about it everyone in the building will be hearing about it. I will be ordering this from trdparts the guy would not stop laughing when I told them how much the dealer here wanted for them.

Hmmm that's odd. I'm fairly positive I've seen a topper locally (I think it was either a Jason or ATC/Astro) that used a c-clamp. No drilling of the bed at all.

I'm not saying it cant be done but I dont know that I would do it I tried and it felt like I could rip it off just the bed rails.

This isn't the best pic to show it, buy I'm too lazy to go outside and get a new picture - there's really nothing to clamp to without the bedrail system in place.
