Is that map sort of hit and miss? I know there's plenty in my area but only 1 Pidgey pops up.

 

it's on a spawn timer, that shows real time. There are more pokemon in your area but they currently aren't active. The map is EXTREMELY accurate, it's based off the game's API.

 

I heard that if you wait for the little spinning pokeball in the top left to come up and disappear twice you'll most likely get it. Seems to have held true for me so far.
Finally saw and caught a Scyther today! Woot! Still waiting on a damn Pikachu to pop up...

Damn - made it to the magikarp block party and they had already fled the area...

Wasn't a total loss. That map is crazy accurate. I caught an Eevee, Psyduck, found another spot with a Magikarp, a Venonat and then called it to come home but on my way back a Wartortle popped up so I turned around and found that

I also walked enough to hatch another egg. It was a 282 Ponyta. Been already caught a 417 Ponyta though

So tonight I will be using my lucky egg for a mass evolve but will also time it right to where a 10km egg and 5km egg will hatch during my lucky egg. I may go from lvl 15 to 17
