Had my appointment this AM. It took a long time (5 hours) but that was because the SA didn't tell me the that the tech was intending to let the truck "cool down" to check the ATF levels. I was going to ask them to do this but figured I'd save some time as I was only on 2 hours of sleep and I'm 3k miles away from a service. Glad the tech decided to do it because of what I've been reading on here but wish they would have told me because I would have just took a nap in their air conditioned lounge instead of anxiously pacing around the dealership.

I didn't have a chance to test out CC yet but was more interested in how it would handle upshifting/downshifting (gear search) on the hill back up to my city from the dealership along with the lag from P to D and R to D. Lag from P to D and R to D is gone. I back my truck into my garage and noticed that it no longer "lunges" while I back in. It was getting annoying and I'm glad it's gone. As far as the hill goes coming back up into my city, I'll give a brief description: it's highway 10 (major interstate in the southern part of the US) and my dealership is in the valley portion and there is a pretty steep incline on the way back into town. Not sure on the grade % but big rigs have their own dedicated lane because they're doing 25-30 MPH if they have a full load. It's about 5 minute trip on that steepest part of the grade. When I first drove up it May 24th (the day I bought my truck) I immediately noticed the gear searching issues. It would downshift into 4th and stay there even after the crest as it continues to be uphill but very marginal after the crest. Coming from a 2009 DCLB SR5 V6 4.0 this was VERY noticeable. It made me question WTF Toyota was thinking going with this 3.5L Atkinson BS as after the crest the 2nd gen 2009 V6 4.0 upshifted into 5th and handled the marginal hills in 5th.

After this flash the shifting on my 3rd gen behaved exactly how my 2009 2nd gen did when negotiating this hill back up home. This is how the 3rd gen should have rolled off the line! Not sure what Toyota was thinking when they launched the 2016's but that's how I expected it to handle the hill. I also want to mention my 2nd gen 2009 was stock and my 3rd gen has a 3" lift with much bigger tires 275/70/17 BFG KO's. Before the flash I would get between 10.5-11 MPG (post lift/modifications) negotiating that hill. I got 15 MPG on this run after the flash. Prior to lift and tires and the flash I was getting around 15 MPG going up the hill. If you're from So Cal and around this part of the IE, I think it'd be a good test for your truck post flash. If you wanna get freaky with Google Maps here are the coordinates 34.038874, -117.153425.

I will end with this...my opinion is that Toyota should have gone big or stayed home with the gear ratio. The 3.90 gear ratio is pussy garbage and Toyota decided to stay home and play it safe. I don't think I've ever seen so many people with stock trucks let alone modified (lift/suspension/bigger tires) have so much of a power loss. I'm not sure if anyone here is familiar with Expedition Overland but they heavily modify their vehicles for gnarly backwoods trips through the Rockies and eventually up into Alaska. They've also done some runs into South America. They've primarily used 4 Runners and Tacoma's in the years prior. They've decided to use a 2016 DCLB TRD OR 4x4 as their new expedition vehicle but after all the mods they've noticed how inefficient (power and MPG wise) the 3rd gen Tacoma had become. I'll post the link for the live Facebook video they did with Nitro Gear and Axle but basically a 4 runner (not sure what gen # but is newer) that was modded and pulling a trailer out performed the 3rd gen Tacoma and the Tacoma wasn't even towing a trailer. Pathetic. The solution? Re gear with 4.88 ratio. GROW A NUT SACK, TOYOTA! I'm waiting for 3 years or the 36k miles to hit and I'm going to re gear. I just can't see myself doing it before the drivetrain warranty ends.

Moment of truth was this morning. I purposely didn't let the truck warm up before backing out from my driveway. R to D delay, may you rest in peace. No change in mileage either. This TSB does what it says it will. Don't expect it to come with a supercharger. Thanks Toyota! Enjoy your trucks ladies and gentlemen.

Dropped mine off Tuesday. Going to pick it up in an hour. Dealer wont perform TSB due to my truck not falling in the applicable VIN range. Says nothing is wrong with the truck. So i guess its normal to rev at almost 4k rpms at 75mph with a 6 speed.....

Just dropped mine off at Crown Toyota in Ontario, California. Drove 40 miles to get here from the High Desert and specifically stated in my appt request that if they can't guarantee that they can do the flash I would like to be contacted ahead of time. Never got a call. Argued with service advisor - "the tech will have to replicate the issues..." Ugh. We'll see. Had a bad experience at Valley-Hi Toyota in Victorville regardinga another issue (damn SA put my truck in 4wd low!) So that's why I didn't go there. Sounds like I should have tried Toyota of Redlands...

Got the ECM update applied in Killeen this morning. The shift delay to drive is gone :bananadance:. I set the cruise control at 70 on the way home and it downshifts as before going up hills / overpasses but upshifts back to 6th as soon as I crest. Since the ECM learning is reset as part of this process I'll wait a few hundred miles to see if there is any other differences in shifting compared to before or any significant difference in MPG. The latter may take a bit longer to determine because I'll be towing a 5,300lb trailer next week. My biggest complaint was the P/R -> D delay and that is definitely resolved.

Well joining the "waiting game" crew. Hoping they have the tsb here in Kentucky. They've been really good with it before. Hoping to post some results here in a little while. Still loving the truck just wishing this issue would go away.

Took my truck in for the hood replacement on Tuesday and asked them to preform the TSB and ATF check. I'm hoping it will be ready tomorrow so I can report.
Let's see how this dealership does! "Toyota of Orlando"

Having my truck serviced as we speak for 10k oil change and the TSB, at first they didn't wanna do the TSB but once I told them I knew people who had got it done and it took no more than 10 mins they agreed to do it.

Will report back after TSB is completed. image.jpg

Had a little chance to drive today and delay R to D gone, cruise works as it should now, but after setting a while I still have that 2-3 or 3-4 flair, just once and after that it's fine.

I was the one that made the dealership aware of the TSB. They were willing to do it after some research, although I gave them a copy of the TSB, and said after a day that "its not a TSB yet but they will do the reprogramming." Not sure how "its not a TSB yet" when I have a copy from Toyota Motor Corp that says TSB -0077. But they did the work and thing is operating like you would expect. Finally!

Frontier Toyota in Santa Clarita, CA ask for Bryan if any of you need a place to fix it.
