Hmmmm I could poke some holes in your plate without lazers. :D Unless it's a few inches thick then I don't think I could.

Lol! I'm glad I get to water my lawn without worrying about the water police. No "spare the air days" either. Going shopping for some lounge reading material and to stock up!

Ha! I lived out there all my life and watched it go to sh!t. Still a beautiful chunk of this country but do get me started on the soft-headed, mouth breathing, simpletons that call themselves Californians. And I'm free of the smothering-nanny state laws and regulations. Glad to be out here in the state my old man was raised!

Unless its AP even 50bmg at 100 yards won't go through. It will dent and ruin the target though.

And this knowledge comes of learning not to leave steel on the range over night...

700gr AP 50BMG will easily penetrate inch thick AR500 @ 1000yards. It can penetrate a couple inches of AR500 at 500yards and below.
This is with the caveat that the plate is solidly standing and not hanging from a chain or rope.

    Here's a pic of 3/8" AR500 shot from 50 yards with non-AP 50BMG: http://i.imgur.com/midcctX.jpg
That's a bit of an extreme case where it tore the target off the chain and broke the frame, but the point can still be made.
I've not seen any 50BMG ball ammo shot at 1/2" AR500 at over 100yards that penetrated all the way through.

Obviously anything AP will clear clean through. It's a tungsten penetrator inside a copper jacket flying stupidly fast through the air.

Ok the first two on the left are old 3006 AP rds the loaded 50 rd is what I've been told is APIT the 50 bullet on the right was a black tip AP rnd I pulled outta dirt at 1000yd I was told they are "hardened steel". But idk. It's magnetic though. The little ball above it was just standard ball mild steel core rnd that I shot at a 3/4" steel plate at 400 yd. it was a bitch to pull out of the plate too. If they weren't so goddam expensive I'd get some of these https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raufoss_Mk_211 image.jpg

Key is anchored well enough to penetrate. Most targets will probably fall over before 50bmg will go through cleanly.
In the test case it was hanging from a 24" chain.

If you want any portable steel to last against even 5.56 it had to move when hit, or you need to be over 100 yards away. My current steel is both angled, and able to swing, on stand that will tip over if hit hard enough.

Nice, I've seen too many people spend a lot of money on thick ar500 targets and bolting them to a frame stuck in the ground only to wonder why that .338LM punched a hole straight through it.

For many rifle targets (shot with <30-06) I've found it's easiest just to chain them and keep them small.

Its fun. Some of the live trees in my buddies yard have holes in them haha! You have to find a dry dead one!

Just realized I typed shot instead of shoot lol

If you're stupid with other peoples experinsive targets, you get to buy them new ones :)

I used to fish, and used to kayak, never mixed the two though.

    Why?

Ah, I was a skinny sea kayakguy mostly, touring and island hopping. Some white water too, but I kinda sucked at that (I don't float).

Never got on a fishing kayak.

Mm wish I could've afforded a hobie. Love that pedal drive. I have a pelican catch 120. Was actually out tonight. Took the dog with me. Bought him a life vest incase he tired out while on the water. He did fine. Even rode with me in that yak for a bit then he got mud all over my seat so I had to stand up and " paddleboard" back to the truck.

I love it. It's a little heavy. But not too bad. I fish small lakes and such with it. Took my dog with me last night. When he was in the yak it was a little cramped but not too bad.

Yeah, that's not a kayak :). Sounds like fun though.
