There's no real difference, they just renamed the Trail, and Trail Premium to TRD Off Road and TRD Off Road premium to align with the Tacoma and Tundra naming convention. I wish the Taco had a TRD OR Premium.

Definitely interesting; even if it's just a Trail edition with some cosmetic bits. The 4Runner crowd was already badging their C-pillar for a while on the TE and TEP. Hope that means they finally ramp up production for those trims. 4 years ago when I was shopping for my 5th gen 4Runner the Trails were unicorns (pre-face lift). I ended up with a Limited because thats what was available and ended up loving the center diff. As much as I miss the 4Runner I needed a bed and ended up with my Taco; the manual transmission and diff gear ratio helps me forget...most of the time.

So does the TRAIL or the TRD PRo 4 runners have Locking rear diff's? or will that be a TRD OR thing?

The Trail Editions and TEP's always have had locking diffs (in the 5th gen). The TRDP is a trail with the bilsteins and some cosmetics. It seems they're just calling the Trail edition a TRD OR.

It's definitely bad, but the units produced literally went up by a factor of 5 after the facelift. I had the production numbers somewhere, but will need to dig.

    Same as the current Trail
It isn't, the trail branding flopped. They assumed it would be nice. I like the branding, but people just got confused. It is the equivalent of the Tacoma Off Road as far as suspension, stock locker, crawl control, etc.

People either try to get the Pro or the SR5 like me. Pros are sweet but not worth 50k to buy a rig that I would modify myself in my opinion.

Trails before 2014 were rare! They had better approach and departure angles than the other models. When they did the face lift in 2014, they gave the trial and pro approach and departure angles to all models. That is the reason the SR5 sold more to the off road community and trails are more available today. Still were hard to find though when I was looking this year.

Wonder what those wheels would look like on a 3rd gen Taco.

Really good. I like the stock wheels for the 4runner. If mine had stock on when I bought them, I would have kept them probably.

I was a few hours from buying the 4runner TEP with KDSS when I learned about the faulty airbags still being in production. That sealed the deal on a Tacoma Pro or OR for 2017.

True except for the limited models. They kept the dimensions of the old limiteds and SR5s - just more chrome bits. Fun fact: the pre-face lift trail body style was shared by the 4 cylinder offered in 2010 (color matched trim) and all Canadian SR5s (sans appearance package).

I personally wasn't a fan of the 2014+ Trail wheels - too blingy for my taste. I did however love the 8-hole design they offered 2010-13 for Trails and some FJs (the 4runner had a matte silver look while the FJ's had a matte gray).

I wish they would align more to make sense. I was getting confused when looking at the tundra since the tundra trd off road is a package for the sr5 same with the tundra limited. What would be cool is if the tacoma had a platinum like the tundra ie. leather with power everything heated cooled seats moon roof ect. A vertical rear window would also be amazing.

there is a 4runner section on TW.

putting it under the 3rd gen Taco section is humiliation to the T4R
