3rd Gen remote start

    2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road Double Cab
    i wanted to get a remote start for my 16' trd off road but from what i have found, most people that get remote start on the smart key vehicles have to get a separate key fob and also when they go to enter the vehicle, it turns off. Does anyone know of a system that utilizes the toyota fob and doesn't turn the truck off upon entry?

    I just had this installed today. They were able to use the factory fob, but I was told it's a built in safety mechanism for the truck to turn off off upon reentry. Apparently common with Toyota/Lexus push start so the company that installed it said.

    The truck doesn't unlock. You can lock/unlock it after using the remote start. Once you open the door, (or press the brake pedal) the vehicle turns off. You have to restart it after entering.

    No you hit lock 3 times so the truck is locked. You can unlock the doors and it will remain running until ANY door is opened then it turns off as well as the if break is pushed (ex. Someone breaks your window and crawls inside).

    I believe the purpose is to have your vehicle up to operating temp and the climate adjusted before entering. Restarting is not a big deal since you just push a button.

    I havea Clifford on 4Runner for about 5 years no problems, and I haveaviper on Tacoma. Both made by same company.
    Only downside is that you have to have a separate remote.
    I don't like "Toyota" remote start because it shuts off after opening the door-stupid!

    Our Dodge srt charger has factory remote start/push button start. doesn't shut off when the door is opened... just have to push the start button once

    .. I really wonder why Toyota doesn't include remote start these days, its not even an option is it?

    I have factory remote start on my fob it stays running until you step on the brake, the doors can stay open. the viper alarm/remote start turned the engine off to as soon as you stepped on the brake to put it in gear on my 2001 Ford F-250. Both were automatics I don't know about manuals.

    My dealer installed it for me on my factory fob before I took delivery,it did not come from the factory with one, dealership was able to find the truck I wanted from another dealer. Yes I push the lock button on the factory fob 3 times and it starts. My dealer said I could have either a factory remote start or an aftermarket one, I chose factory one.

    Yes (there are several threads on using the Drone app) - it works great and also works in conjunction with the key fob - press unlock 3 times to start.
