The whole reason I bought my truck was for the powertrain. 96% of the time the truck commutes 32 miles one way to work so I wanted the frugality and simplicity of the 2TR. However, the 4 speed auto was not on the table for my specification. Squelching 15% of flywheel power stirring oil around in a TC seemed a little self-defeating.

The whole manual vs auto debate is settled on one point: driver preference...nuff said. I have driven shitty standard shifts (think 93 Dodge Shadow ) and awesome automatics (TH2004R in my 85 Buick...dont hate) and everything in between. My preference will always be a MT if I have a choice. I think we have arrived at a mechanical crossroads nowadays where there are no longer extenuating benefits of a syncrobox versus a slushbox.

Heres a pic of my shifter:

I like it, that's what I'd probably buy today. But my regular cab 5 speed is doing fine. Toyota has offended me by discontinuing the regular cab and restricting manual transmissions.

First is very short in my 2nd gen v6, but it clicked and made a ton of sense when I was pulling 5k pounds in trailer and cargo behind me and had to start that on an incline.

Oh and I wish they made a DCLB with a MT.

With these 6 speeds I wish they made first and secon even shorter. That way we could start in 2nd under normal loads and use first for off road and towing.

i am able to be clunk free by going really slow 1st to 2nd (almost stop again) was just wondering if its all tacoma or some tacoma that clunk at the rear end at low rpm ? and what is the cause of this rear end clunk when there is transfer of rpm (pushing\releasing clutch or fast release of gas)

I pop it into 4Lo when off-roading and you can easily start in 2nd on flat ground.

I do the same. I spend more time in 4lo while offroading than I do the hi range gears. It would just be nice to have some of those low range gear while still in 2 wheel drive. I drove my 1st generation in 2lo all the time since it had manual hubs still. BRING BACK THE MANUAL HUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even better than that, I had the Daves off-road twin stick tcase shifter in my 1985. I could run through the gears in low then rev match the case into high and keep going haha

Just confirmed my 6mt is on its way. Black double cab off road. 7-10 days. 34588 msrp.

They have a dealer discount of 1k. Im hoping to take off another 1k.

Really surprised I got one the day I went in. The off road manual are so sparse. He showed me the list throughout the northwest region and only 2 maybe were available and like 10 already had deposits. 1 that was available was going to cost me transport but the one I got is just getting shipped out. Got so lucky, and my preferred color and options.

    Howdy Boys and Girls!

I'm a big fan of MT's...so much I went from the southwest (Tucson) to the northwest (Spokane) to get one. The idea of ordering one just didn't appeal to me (waiting...not for me).

I picked up a DCSB OR 6MT 8 days ago. It's great to be back to shifting after a 3-year break w/my Tundra. I sure missed my FJ Cruiser.

    THX!

Doh! I worked with Paul Wallace at AutoNation. He's Awesome! If there's one to be had, he'll get it for you. If you just go to look, ask for him. I've never met a more knowledgeable person about the vehicles being sold than him.

    Super nice, super accommodating.

All around the best new vehicle purchase ever.

Paul Wallace is the go to guy for that dealership, hands-down.

Thanks, I did get one though. How much if any did you get off msrp if you don't mind me asking. I still have to negotiate and sign.

I got it $500 under MSRP...

It has premium and tech, tonneau, towing...

They gave me HIGH dollar trade-in value on my Tundra, so I didn't balk at the high (my opinion) price of the Taco.

Does anyone have a 6 MT double cab with a 6 foot bed? I tried to build one online and it will not let me have the 6 foot bed with a manual transmission.

I believe that is a Unicorn that has never existed. No Manual in a Longbed.

Currently the only way to get a manual and a long bed is via an access cab.
