Has anyone actually converted their SR to have automatic headlights? The past 4-5 vehicles I've owned all had it and I find myself driving around in the mornings without my lights on. I know it's not that hard to turn the dial, but I just don't want to have to worry about it. I also know there is the option to just leave the headlights on all the time since they turn off automatically. I'm not a big fan of that option. If anyone has done this please let me know.

It is standard. Just not on the base models. Does your truck have the sunlight sensor?

@Launch21v I am actually waiting on delivery... 4x4 TRD OFFROAD, when i test drove i didn't pay attention and since i have been looking for one to take a peek in, but extremely hard to find in the Bay Area. I refused the Premium Tech package ( which states - projector-beam headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) with auto on/off feature) and the only upgrade i have is the Tow Package. I cannot find anywhere that the Auto on/off is actually on mine.

Thanks for the help. I personally could care less, but the lady is used to it on our TCH.

Auto headlights are only on the premium tech package, hence "auto on/off feature". I have a 4x4 TRD Sport without the tech package and do not have auto headlights. It's not that big of a deal to me honestly.

Lights will burn out much much quicker doing this. Interior Instrument lights, headlight, taillights.

This is the first new vehicle I have ever purchased and I have become accustomed to the auto on/off feature. I had a 2003 Chevy Blazer before this that was a base model and had this feature. The wife has had two Toyota's with this feature. I guess I figured it was a "standard" feature now and didn't think to check if it was an option. Now that I don't have it I miss it.

The temp sensor is in the passenger side dash speaker which is where the light sensor usually is. If I'm thinking correctly the mod should be either just replace the headlight controller on the column if all vehicles have the sensor or replace the controller, wiring, and sensor. Would the parts from another vehicle be compatible?

Toyota is weird that way. Some features just don't get carried over to the different models. Kind of like how my truck that had a 39k sticker doesn't have home link.

My TRD OR doesnt have auto headlamps either. I keep leaving them on when I get out of the truck and it dings at me. I got spoiled by my Subaru and the wifes fusion.

lol, hmm, so did that on my 84 toyota truck and cant say i ever burned out a instrument light ever. I want to say that was 10+ years. I think you are way over thinking this. on my current taco, i have left the headlight switch on for almost 4 years and haven't had to switch out even a headlight yet.

My SR5 doesnt have auto on/off headlights like my Camry did, but if i leave them on and lock the truck they eventually turn off, and if i press lock twice they turn off immediately. They are on when the truck is, along with the DRL's. I think that was an option I selected in the Head Unit. Now, it does dim the interior head unit and always has the lights on the dash on... But i think you can probably do it. I have the stock headunit, non JBL, non upgraded entune radio.

To each his own. Not overthinking it -- I used to always leave the headlights on in my subaru and it was just annoying when they did go out (yes it did take many years to do that though!)

Its one of those features I wish I had only out of laziness. Its strange that they put the Auto On/Off on the Camry LE but not on the SR5/TRD Tacoma.

On my 2007, I left the headlights on all the time. They would shut off when I opened a truck door.

On my 2016, I can do this (delayed power off), but the Entune and other displays are COMPLETELY unreadable because of the dimming that occurs to the interior lights when the headlights are turned on.

I'd like the sensor, if for nothing else, controlling the interior dimming level. A bonus would be flipping from DRL to Headlamps.

Looks like this thread hasn't been updated in a while. Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade? I have TRD Sport DCLB 4x4 without the JBL package (automatic headlights come standard on this one). I figure the sensor would pop into the spot by the right speaker on the dash and some wiring would need to take place. Oh and upgrade the headlight control column.

Best bet might be to ask your dealer, though I'm sure they'd charge you a ridiculous amount to do it.

Dealer wont really know. They can spend time researching it because it wont be obvious as manufacturers don't really have "upgrade" kits or whatever you'd like to call it for dealers. So it's going to come down to spend time and possibly make money or they can be making money doing someone else's car for something more routine. Plus this kind of thing is going to be expensive and they know it, so there is no incentive in anyway as the customer will probably not want it after they see a 1500 price tag for parts and labor. Guess which option they are going to take? OP will pretty much have to say this is what he wants right off the bat and eat up the bill. Leaving the lights on wont kill the battery, seems like a dumb mod imo.
