Well technically I went off-roading but just at Fiesta Island (San Diego). Basically like a big sand parking lot. Took Gatsby (rotty mix) there to splash in the bay a bit for his 2nd b-day. image.jpgimage.jpg image.jpg

Went over Greens Pass outside of Greenwater, WA and dropped into the Naches. From there we made our way to Little Bald Mtn, east of Whistling Jacks in Cliffdall, WA. Was able to let the kid and the dog play some.

Good lord is that hot!! No offence, but I think I will take my trip over yours. 72° around 3:00. I was in Casa Grand about a month ago visiting family on my way to San Diego, it was way to hot for me. Definitely an area I would like to go and explore, just not in the summer.

Whoa, that's crazy. I have an ODB dingle I can hook up to torque to monitor real time temperature... I would be interested to know what temp that was!

The hottest I've wheeled was 101 at the end of the day around 6pm. It was climbing all day to that. I left the truck idling for several hours with the AC on and the needle never moved. We did some 4 wheel up a Canyon at the hottest time and it didn't care. I guess 120 is the limit...

Second attempt at trying to get to this plane crash trail in Crowsnest Pass. Again, no luck getting to the top. Ran into one real steep hill that I was too much of a wuss to try, though at the top it looked like smooth sailing afterwards.

The map that I was working with for this trail is not current. (http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=10136869) There's a new logging road that has been built recently that goes right overtop of this route and I couldn't figure out how to get past it.

I think this would still work instead (http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=10136932) but looks considerably more difficult.

The hill looked maybe doable, but there was one spot where I thought I may roll over a quick grade change and hit the bottom of the cab (for us long box, no sliders, unlifted guys).

    Here's what we tried:

    PC Markup.jpg

Looks like we must've drove right past you at Crowsnest Lake on our way through to Fernie.

    Just missed you?
We were on Crownest lake/emerald lake this Sunday.. see a couple red Kayaks out on the white cap swells? LOL
So the red path you tried? and failed?
Ive been on the yellow path where it starts at Star creek falls. Fun but thick dense vegetation. Looks like it would be a cool trail to take instead of the gravel road to get to the normal starting point.

So this google earth view indicates another route which i've indicated in red the path we were planning. Looks easier.. Maybe TOO easy?
But since you had to turn back maybe it is the route we'll take.

The red one dead ends now pretty well right below the red "crowsnest pass" dot on your map. That's the route we were trying for.

The yellow one contains the hill that I didn't want to go up (right in that swoopy corner to the top-right of the red dot). We hopped over from the red to the yellow.

I'm not sure about the blue, but after where the blue intersects the yellow it looked like it was smooth sailing (the nice open shot in my post was taken there). The paths are pretty narrow where we were and I did end up with a couple stick scratches that I now have to try to buff out.
