Yeah you can't get 240v with one phase. Just wasn't sure if the Honda would be a better option than beefing up the built in receptacle power. 83 amps for a 120 outlet that's nuts!

 

You get 83A from 1000W/12V 12VDC is the power going to the inverter, and the output is 120VAC and now your amps is down to 8.33A. 1000W sounds like a lot but
Watts is Volts X Amps, so Amps is Watts / Volts.

What are you planning to run on it? I did the all-the-time 400w mod and have no issues charging a camera battery in the cab while powering my Edgestar fridge in the bed at the same time or powering a netbook or lightweight computer (I added two additional outlets in the cab for charging batteries or the netbook). It's not going to run a gaming laptop under load, a heavy grinder, electric chainsaw, or anything that pulls a lot on startup but it'll do the common task I've needed it to so far. The 400w is probably about all that will fit in the stock location under the center console unless you pull it out of the case.

I have a 750w modified sine wave inverter still in the box but it's pretty big and I haven't had any reason to use it. Remember it's a whole lot more efficient to run something at 12v DC than it is to use an inverter to jump to 110v AC; the 12v charger that comes with the Wasabi batteries is just one of the reasons I prefer them to the OEM GoPro batteries.

I've honestly tried to think of other things I could run off of it but since the truck needs to be running it's really only used on trips and primarily for powering the fridge and charging the laptop.

 

The main thing I want from an inverter is to power the charger for all my 18V power packs for my set of DeWalt tools (drill, saw, etc.). Those could come in very handy if SHTF. Also have solar panels & controller to charge the 12V truck batteries (dual), so even if gas cannot be found that functionality remains.

Any creative ideas for protesters blocking highways? I've been thinking a lot about what I could get away with if my truck got swarmed by idiots, keep seeing it on the news.

 

Unless all of society has collapsed (in which case they're unlikely to be just protesting; more likely it'll be pillaging) or you're completely boxed in, you're better off finding another route rather than trying to push through. Unless you can prove conclusively that you're in fear of your life, you won't win in court if you run over a bunch of idiots standing in the middle of the road.

 

I know I can't run them over but I see them banging on vehicles and kicking bumpers when they try slowly driving through. Not a collapsed society situation just wasn't sure if anyone has any legal ideas of keeping them off your vehicle. It happened a half hour away from me in Portland Maine the guy idled though but they legitimately tried stopping his car... Pathetic attempt but what do you do it's either stop or have your truck damaged.

Yeah, saw the protests on the news last week (week before?). Portland PD did a good job of handling them. Morons. Do you know when the last time Police anywhere in Maine shot a black guy? Let alone the Portland PD? Bet the protesters didn't either. Some people just like to cause problems where there aren't any.

But anyway:
If you can, it's best to find an alternate route. If you can't, try to get around them. If you can't, take it slow. Roll the window down and politely ask that they let you through. Try to avoid escalating things; Tell a lie about having to go and check on your sick mother or something if you have to.
The best plan when you're dealing with people who aren't too tightly wrapped is to try and avoid getting them worked up, because they'll unravel in a hurry.

But, if you want to speculate on the best way to get through them as fast as possible, a 3/4 ton truck with a Fisher V-plow gets my vote.

Will any of you suffer that fate? I will not. Yes, I was on an American highway and protesters attempted to stop me...... then they quickly got out of the way when they saw that I would not stop. Plain and simple. Life's about choices.

In many areas, pedestrians have right of way, regardless of whether they're in a crosswalk or not. Simply plowing into them would constitute vehicular assault in most areas, which I think is a felony.
Now, if you start slowly driving through the crowd and they start beating on your car, that would change the scenario, in my mind. The minute they start punching windows and kicking the car you're justified in leaving in a hurry, since that would give you reason to believe you were in danger.
Note that I'm not a lawyer, so do some research for yourselves on what is and isn't considered 'justified'

When I was visiting a discrete vehicle armor business in San Antonio for a former employer they had something similar as an option. Would stream/fog pepper spray or other "back the F up" agents.
