Better to ask what I have not done.
Im just thinking i want to redo my swing outs and might want to get rid of the spare for day trips where i am not that far away from places.

Think you could have patched it if you needed to?

Yes. This happened yesterday. :D Though it wasn't popped, it came off the bead. Was quicker just to throw on the spare.

Could've maybe shoved 3 or 4 plugs in there if desperate I guess. Not sure why though.
If I lost 2 tires that's when I'd go for the desperation patch. Otherwise I'd just throw the spare on and be done with it.
Are you trying to justify not running a spare or something?

Most crashes occur 5 miles from home... I wouldn't think about risking it.

Murphy's law guarantees you'll end up slicing your tires in no time.

I'd definitely would not run without a spare.

    Stuff and junk and things...
I cut mine so I would have extra room for when shit flexes. And if I ever wanted to run 37's. And I didn't want to do it again so I went as much as possible and still barely clear the front of my sliders.

Do not leave your spare at home. The day you do, is the day you will need it.

I'd be alright with forking over the extra coin for quality. Practicality of needing another gopro is more significant. Still leaning towards a Nex or a6000 like we were talking about before, though :)

Photos from a quality DSLR (mirrorless or otherwise) handled by a knowledgable operator will always put a GoPro to shame. Video quality is a different story. You just need to decide how much you plan on controlling the various parameters of a DSLR like aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. If you're just gonna leave it in "auto" mode you might as well save some cash and get the GoPro.

I did this, not exactly on a trail (dirt lot with construction debris), but it could have just as easily happened on a trail with sharp rocks at sidewall height.
Jagged, torn edges, about as wide as 3-4 fingers. No way a plug, or a bunch of plugs would have held reliably. Spare was definitely necessary.

@Ice Horse , what psi were you running when that happened, and what were the conditions? Always wonder when we see other rigs broken down. Real reminder to use caution. Today we came across a jeep w/ broken axle left in the middle of the road nowhere. I had my own issues today though.

This is what a 6" spike does going through the tread towards the sidewall of the st maxx. Scary thing is I picked it up yesterday and drove 50 miles home and 50 miles back today. I heard it last night but thought it was a rock stuck in the tread. Better step up my after trail run inspections.

Indeed. A week ago I was out poking around in an area I hadn't explored before. Decided to run all the way to a dead end, and found a Jeep who went past the "end" sign, and [best guesses on my part] tried to turn around but slid off the hill down into the woods. There was no one there when I found it, and a shiny Hi-Lift was left laying on the ground next to it. Looked like they couldn't get traction to back up the hill (very loose mossy ground and they were facing downhill with no room/way to turn around) and tried to put rocks under the tires for traction.

I only found it because I walked the last 40-50 yards of the trail, as it looked to get messy and I couldn't read the trail marker (which said "end"). Taking a minute to "use caution" sometimes pays a big dividend. It's too bad no one was with the Jeep, as I always carry plenty of recovery gear and that one would have been straight forward.
