So I made a new friend today.

Four years ago when our builder purchased the land they built our house on, I noticed that the property next to ours had a lot of garages. Twelve, in fact. When we moved in three years ago, I often caught glimpses of hot rods and old trucks. I've always wanted to meander over, but never had a good enough excuse. Today there was a garage sale sign out, and I finally had a good excuse.

I should have gone over 3 years ago.

I expect to be checking in on Ron from time to time, especially after he starts his next build project - a '59 Corvette convertible.

In the meantime, these are his current projects (almost completed):

Before I left, I found out what his favorite beer is. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Alright, kids, get your tissues/socks/roommate's hat handy.

From the OHTM truck show this weekend:

Pilothouse D100. The guy said that his dad bought the truck brand new, and that the only thing on it that wasn't original was the driver's door and the paint. The driver's door got replaced in the 70's with a junkyard door because a bull caved it in while they were trying to load him into a trailer. And then his dad repainted in the early 90's right before he died. Guy'll never sell it.

This one is a complete frame-up rebuild, but with all of the original parts. Originally a southwestern truck, so all the panels were in good shape but in need of a sandblast and fresh paint. 250k on the original 347 V-8 and Hydramatic transmission. The current owners have driven it everywhere since they restored it in the early 2000's, they said. All the states but Hawaii, all the way down to the tip of South America, through Canada from Nova Scotia to Vancouver. Very cool.

And then there was the commercial stuff on the tarmac...

Amazing how skinny the old Walter Snowfighters are without the giant-ass V-plow and wing plows on the front...

This guy says that he installed the concrete block to smooth the ride out because after he removed the old dump body the rear end tried to skitter around and kick him off the road whenever he hit a bump

This one the guy says that the wrecker mechanism still worked perfectly and that he used it last weekend when his wife's '64 Thunderbird broke down.

This guy circled the lot 4-5 times like he was looking for a parking spot, but kept revving his truck every few minutes. Ford guys, always compensating.

    Cool old beach wagon:

Vintage reefer truck. Guy who owned it says that he bought them as a combination in Georgia, put new tires and air lines on and drove them home.

    Some old tractors too:

These two Internationals had segregated themselves off in a corner away from everybody else, haha!

    Really neat old Camper.

    Vintage C30 Dually

A pair of immaculate Broncos going up for auction in a couple of weeks. Makes me wish I could put in a bid, they were gorgeous.

And a vintage Wagoneer that was like a wet dream for me. I love the classic Waggys, and this one even had a Manual transmission!

The power rear window even still worked!

    But wait, there's more!

    Total custom Rig.

    Detroit Diesel

And I thought I had it rough with the kingpins on my '69!

The old Fire Truck from my home town :D
They used to have this in the 4th of July Parade every year when I was a kid, then they donated it to the museum.

I love how elaborate the old headlights were back before they perfected aiming the beams.

And for the last batch we went into the museum itself. If you're a vintage racing enthusiast you NEED to come visit the museum this year; they've got a ton of old dirt track racers, beach racers, etc. on display. They've even got one of Michael Schumacher's Ferraris on loan.
    Plus this old thing.

Also had a gorgeous Fuelie '57

    And this drool-worthy E-type Jag.

Both go to auction in August.

I'd say he's retired it. Either that or he repaints the plow every spring, lol. It was a gorgeous truck, though. Somebody must have oiled the underside religiously because it was immaculate. None of that 'textured' look you get when they grind off surface rust and paint it.

My '68 is earlier in the thread. It's getting a full restoration this season, and i can't wait to post pics when it's done. Almost bought a second one a couple of weeks ago. fully restored, numbers matching '67 326-HO convertable 4-speed in red with a white top and interior. Super nice, but I like to modify things and this one was too perfect to mess with.

It was actually a really really really really dark midnight blue. Beautiful color in person, looked like it was about a mile deep.

This only about 1/3rd of the pics I took, and I didn't even take pictures of everything. Just the interesting/really nice stuff.
