Want Your Chrome Bumper Color Matched for a Low Price?

Changed my mind already. I am getting white. Now I just need the hood scoop.

 

I just went to my local body shop that has an account with Toyota. They ordered a unpainted OEM rear bumper, color matched it and installed for $350. I then sold my take off chrome for $250 a week later.

By the way, OEM chrome bumpers are way more expensive than painted, around $700 I think compared to $250 or so for unpainted.

 

Well congrats most places around here will do it for like 500 bucks uninstalled, paint only. whoever bought your chrome bumper for that much is pretty stupid lol

 

WOW!!! 700 bucks for a chrome bumper? Thats close to armor pricing...

 

The big downside I see with this is the shell will trap dirt, moisture etc. against the bumper and speed the rusting/deterioration of the original bumper unless you find a way to seal it all the way around and pull a vacuum on it to keep it dry. It looks really good in the OP pictures but the statement of being able to remove it if you want your chrome back.....well if you remove it not long after installing you might find your chrome bumper under it otherwise your going to find a rusty, rotted bumper under it.

I see it here where I live all the time, guys start to get a little fender rust so they put some snake oil on it then cover it with fender flairs. Looks great for 2 years then the flairs fall off because the metal they were attached to disappeared with all the moist dirt being trapped under the flairs.

 

I mean I'm from Houston so rust doesn't really happen much on new-ish cars. No salt in the air and such. May speed it slightly if at all for me, but I dont see how it would exponentiate a ton it considering the bumper wold get wet either way

 

They have their way to replace their chrome bumper, you have yours. If the person who bought the chrome bumper that retails for $700 for $250, I wouldn't call that stupid.

Yes being in Houston you certainly don't have the salt/chemicals on the roads like we do however trapping dirt then getting it wet in a semi-sealed environment like behind that cover where it doesn't have air/sun to dry it allows the trapped moisture to do amazing things to even the best chrome. It might take a few years where your at but where I live it wouldn't last a year and the chrome would be gone.

 

If you live in a place like that, it's very easy to just add more 3M tape around the edge to where its watertight. And I won't have this truck for a few more years lol. Gonna trade up to a Platinum Tundra after college.

 

Well I don't like my chrome one either but don't feel like spending a grand on an aftermarket so I'm going to check into having the chrome stripped then powder-coated black.

 

Yeah there's no cheap way to color match
