backed out of my garage and when stopped and shifting to drive i went to push the ECT button and instead turned off the engine. this is not the first time, the location of the ect button sucks. i want to re wire to the menu button on the right side of the steering wheel. i have never used that button, any ideas where to start. we have a sound system shop here that is good the owner did a couple of the overhaulin shows. guess i need to search out the wiring diagram, seems like switching a couple wires should work?

Lol, for real? The ECT button is nowhere near the Engine Start button... not sure how one could mistake one for the other.

it is right down and under next to it. since my brain is programed to always go to the start button that is the issue. 71 year old guy here, brain is fading fast....

I agree. They are a foot apart at least. But I do always press the 4wd knob instead of the start button

This, because of my seating position where my head is I cannot actually see the start button and somehow jam my finger into the 4wd knob every now and then. But that's about it. I have hit the hazards a couple times with my thumb when changing the temp or radio or something, lol.

I guess I'm still used to the Tundra cab where everything was like a mile away from the driver so you had to really be aiming for things to hit them. Never accidentally turned it off before though.

Doesn't matter if it's 4 inches or 4 feet. The buttons aren't close. Start is to the left of 4wd knob

my ECT button is at the far left on the panel even left of where your BSM button is. i do not have those raised dividers. when i start my truck i do not even need to look i just know where the start button is so my brain is programed to go only there, LOL....maybe i can just move it to the far right side of the panel but would really like it on the steering wheel.

same here. i went into 4wd when i wanted to turn up the fan.
they should have put all the 4wd stuff up where the crawl control is.
also would have been nice if the etc button was on the stick shift like
some of the cars from the past. then i dont have to look for it when i want it.
i just press a button on the stick shift where i usually rest my hand anyways.

Though I wouldn't agree with the ETC button location as I don't think they are in close relation to each other. I would agree that they could have placed the 4wd knob in a better location cause I go for it often when I'm trying to turn the fan on, oh well still not a huge deal.

What a bunch of dicks. Don't bother answering his question about how to relocate the ECT button, but instead nitpick about how far apart the start button is from the ECT button. They could be 12 feet apart, who really cares?

I'd have engaged 4WD at least a dozen times if it weren't for the "turn" style knob.

Its not too hard to figure out. buy a trim panel for a truck with a different button layout and move the ECT to one of the holes father down.
