I know that the locker is superior in poor traction situations (off road) and I want it, but you can't run the locker on dry pavement. This is where the limited slip seems like it would be better for every day driving on the pavement. In a truck with an empty bed, when you hit a patch of gravel or sand on the pavement or gas it around a corner, one wheel will generally spin like crazy. With a limited slip, you have less slippage and more traction.

Same thing with wet pavement, one wheel will spin like crazy with an open diff but with a limited slip you can drive normally and get more traction. Am I crazy for wanting a TRD Sport for the limited slip instead of a TRD OR with a locker?

Nothing is more annoying with trucks than needing to pull out quickly and having the inside tire spin needlessly when a limited slip would get you moving.

All depends on the off roading you do. If you see alot of rocks, the locker would be great. If not, the LS is a good choice.

If your mostly worried about street traction then go with the LSD, i got the locker since i need it for what i use my truck for and it also turns off the ABS which is sweet in the desert.

wish I could have both, because you can't beat a locker off-road. It would be cool to have an electro-magnetic locker which would allow you to use it as a limited slip by turning it down and it could fully lock at full power.

just put an air locker with a VSC truck ('09+)

you get full electronic limited slip (not mechanical) and locker.

x2. I have TRD OR come with traction control. I don't have problem during rain. It does slip a little but traction kick in control. I believe VSC started in 2009+. Mine 2010.

This Post really depends on what year your talking...

    All 09-10's have Trac/vsc/ Auto-Lsd w/ a button. Off-road also gets the locker and A-TRAC in 4lo.

IF 05-08, then you decide Mech LSD in TRD Sport or Open diff w/ locker in 4lo on Off-road.

Both have advantages/disadvantages that have been discussed to death, search away.

I don't really do any off-roading, and in general I'm happy I have the LSD. Particularly when there is snow on the roads, it is nice, because I wouldn't want to be driving around with the locker engaged on a regular basis.

really i don't think you are supposed to drive around with the lsd engaged all the time either...if i recall it only works when in 2wd on the rear wheels...and it doesn't work when in 4wd..i may be wrong...i never really had a use for it...if i started sliping i just put it in 4wd

It's a truck.... Even with an LSD.... if you gas it too hard while making a turn, I can qaurentee you'll have more fishtailing than you'll have traction.

I have an '07. I was thinking of the mechanical LSD, not the new electronic "Auto LSD". Can't turn mine off.

oh..lol..sorry bout that...i totally overlooked that you had an '07...i have no idea what my old '88 had....maybe mechanical like urs or maybe nothing...lol....i'm no expert at the lsd or locker stuff....i guess lockers are useful for off roading out west with all the big rocks and stuff...i really never understood why you couldn't just use the grip from the front tires while in 4wd to get you out of a jam if you had a rear tire up in the air...but some people get several tires up in the air when they off road...lol..i never really did anything that serious as far as off roading goes...around here it's mostly mud and small rocks

Both models have limited slip. The OR adds a locker and ATRAC. So if you get the OR, you still have LSD.
IMO - the locker is of less value than ATRAC.

With a good set of tires, all this worry goes out the window. If you push any truck in the wrong conditions it will fishtail. Therefore dont drive like a teenager and you will be good 90% of the time.I have an 07 with the locker mod and really have to push it in the rain to lose traction with it off.More often than not with it unlocked in dirt I still leave a posi mark.As for the new trucks with all these extra buttons and such, and all these guys trying to figure out how to use them and what conditions call for each, I am glad mine has 1 fucking button!Control is left to the driver, not depending on all sorts of gadgets to keep me straight,or in my lane,or in some cases like the prius park the damn thing.I had a detroit locker in my 91, now that was some unpredictable winter driving!

This is the case with all rear wheel drives, including cars. Front wheel drive produces understeer and rear wheel drive gives you oversteer.
