Hey guys just wanted to quickly introduce myself. I live in the Fredericksburg area and will try and get involved in some of the meet-ups. Just got a 2009 Taco about two weeks ago so haven't done anything with it yet except drive from Va Beach to home.

Great list! If you're military, there are some great trails on bases too (Quantico for instance). I recall Chaos off road was only 1.5 hours away, but in WV (hence not being on the list yet).

Do you need a permit or anything for those trails at Quantico?

 

no permit needed in most cases. At least none that I know of. For a quick dip off I95....going south, exit off the 2nd exit for Quantico, make a right at the bottom of ramp and you'll see a dirt trail that crosses a creek. Go through 4 more creek crossings (about 1.5 miles) and give your truck a quick wash without getting out of the vehicle!

 

Do you need to be in the military to access the trails @virginiamarine ?

 

No, but you won't be allowed on base by saying you're going off roading either. It helps to be with someone who knows the trails and schedules too. The better trails that I've been on are in the training sectors and you don't want to be in the areas where there is a lot of troop activity. I can send you a pm on how it's all done legally. I just don't want to post it anywhere on the internet.

 

Can anyone recommend a good place to have a suspension kit installed? By good I mean reputable, won't break the bank, and install done in a timely manner. Here is what I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on:

I volunteer @Lots2Learn58 and I haha! Could probably be done in 1 day. As long as you get the front coilovers pre-assembled.

Or you could wait a month, and I will be selling my OME suspension, and all you would need is the LR UCAs. And an alignment afterwards. And add a leaf if you want that.

We could do it in a day with the the coil overs pre-assembled and all 3 of us working on it and maybe @fatfurious2 will have some air tools by then

3 trucks to work on would be very difficult for me with current situations.
