how are you gonna keep it steady while driving? that might work at lower speeds but pass 40-45mph that thing is gonna be shaking alot.

 

I consistently drive 70mph with substantial headwinds, 25-30 mph, without issues.

 

Good to know, i wouldnt want to drill unnecessary holes in my truck either.

 

It's always windy in the summer afternoons where I live and I drive home from work on the freeway directly into it. It's not unmovable but still stable enough. Now I need to figure out what to do with the holes in my pillar

 

Just get two bolts that fit in the holes and you are good to go.

 

I was kidding about the last part. Once I finish fixing everything else I will be installing my beefier bracket.

 

I haven't noticed any major movement or vibrations yet. It seems rigid enough with just the 5 bolts on the fender.

 

What are the two little clear-ish plastic pieces included in the hardware of this kit? They're square-ish, almost look like a drywall anchor...

 

They're supposed to go in your A-pillar.

That's why most people have passed on drilling in the A-Pillar. I used 3M doubleback tape on my bracket and only did that after I installed the precleaner you see at the bottom of the thread.

 

I didn't. They are still in the zip lock bag with the two nuts I can't get on.

Since the question was asked about the two plastic pieces, did anyone else have a random small lock washer?

 

Yes. I don't know what that lock washer is for. It puzzled me.

For those of you who didn't use the plastic inserts:

In all fairness the instructions didn't mention them. I knew that's what they were for because I watched a video of an ARB Safari snorkle install. Yet, the instructions clearly state to simply drill a hole smaller than the screws and then install.

I pondered about it and quickly came to this realization:
- Installing those creates a larger hole in the A pillar.

I also questioned the strength of the plastic holding the mounting screws in place vs screws directly into the sheet metal. For these reasons I opted not to use them.
To test if the screws were sufficient I gave a moderate downward whack with a hammer to the mount and yanked on the snorkle hard enough to move the whole truck. The screws held the mount firmly in place. So, I'm not too worried about it.

To use the plastic inserts you simply drill a hole slightly smaller than them and pop them into place. Then you install the mount with the screws into those inserts.
