Looks like another fun trip to Gold Lake! I like the tent man, out of bear reach! I got a lil damage off that stupid tree. Now I have an excuse to get sliders!

Fun times indeed, I had a blast, so did the wife. I'd love to do it again, with a bigger crew, maybe head up to snake lake...

I know you're joking here about the RTT being out of bear reach. But for those that don't know.

Bears can climb trees rather easily.

Thank you for posting the info and pic of that boulder on the trail from Sierra City up the back side to the Sierra Buttes. I took my Bronco, full size, with 36" swampers up the trail the first spring after that boulder dropped on the trail. I barely made it by (about 4-5 years ago). I've been meaning to go back with a sledge hammer, chisels and 8' pry bar and spend the afternoon banging away at it. Haven't had the opportunity to get back up there, was hoping someone else would get to it before I do but I see its still there. I'm heading up there 4th July weekend but probably not a good time to do it as Jeeps and similar size can easily pass and I wouldn't want to block the trail with my fat ass Bronco;) Maybe this Fall or next Spring I'll get to it.

I thought the same thing about trying to roll it down the hill, but would hate to be responsible for crushing some mountain bikers, other trucks or someones house at the bottom... or maybe totally block a lower section of the trail.

yeah. Now that I have 35s and rims with less back spacing and 4 inches wider because long travel I wont go that way.

Yeah it's sketchy. It was worse going up Sierra Buttes than coming down, but definitely a high pucker moment. And not something I'd like to do in a full size truck...

Gold lake is in the Lakes Basin region of the Plumas National Forest. Take hwy 49 out past sierra city, Hook a left on Gold Lake Highway, pull off the road at "Gold Lake" and follow the short paved rd to the campground. To access the 4x4 campground proceed to the SW edge of the campground (or head left as you come in from the highway) you'll see a big sign that says GOLD LAKE 4x4 Campground with an arrow. about a mile down the bumpy ass trail and you're there. As for the Sierra Buttes trail, the entrance is up above Sierra City off hwy 49 by the entrance to the town dump. Takes you up and over the sierra buttes and can drop you down into gold lake. To do Sierra Buttes, Snake Lake, or any of the other fun trails in the area I'd recommend getting a trail guide, or google it.

Perfect, just got myself an 04 first gen and haven't had time to upgrade anything but want to take it out. From what I seen this would be a good place to take it.
