So I have had my Tacoma TRD Sport for a few weeks now. I loved the fact that if I received a text message I could choose READ or IGNORE. If I pushed the READ button the message would be read to me out loud.

Now all of the sudden when I get a text the screen only gives me an IGNORE option and the READ button is grayed out.

    What have I done wrong?

I am using an Iphone 6.

Do you have any other devices connected to your phone over bluetooth? I have an Apple Watch and I'm pretty sure that has something to do with mine not working either. I am able to read them aloud when I dont have the watch on me though. Just my 2 cents.

Subbed. Mine does the same thing with a Nexus 6P; sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have tried power cycling the phone (doesn't work) and removing (deleting) the phone and reconnecting it (sometimes it works temporarily and other times does not fix the issue).

Mine has refused to connect to my iPhone 6s for text messages since I bought the truck so hopefully a response that someone gives here will help me figure out what is going on.

You have to remove the Quick contacts from the phone list on the Entune system. The system will not process texts if you have assigned Quick Contacts.

For those of you who have not ever been able to connect (oorah54)

    1. Click "Forget this device" (the toyota connection) from your Bluetooth settings
    2. remove the phone connection from your entune head unit
    3. Go through the pairing process again.
    4. Be sure to select show notifications (this is the Critical step)

I'm curious as to how the quick contacts messes up the ability to display text messages.

Not sure if I even have quick contacts as in Canada Toyota doesn't support Entune.

Just go into options on your head unit and remove quick contacts. You might have to delete and reestablish the connection to your phone to take affect.

Ill check that out and see if it changes anything. Kinda pointless to have a option that hinders a major feature of the Entune system useless. Guess that'll be another software update...

When you are driving you cannot read text, but the system will read them to you.

I had the same issue, but once I deleted my quick contacts, Entune began reading my text messages. I was able to add one quick contact back and still have the system work, but if I tried to add more it was back to not reading the text messages again.

    Hey -
99% sure it's when you pick the set up for the home screen. I have it as 3 windows. Audio/quick contacts/nav. Make it one of the split screens. It won't have the quick contacts.

That's my plan when I get to my truck.

I had this issue and as everyone says, removing quick contacts is the fix. what I have not figured out how to fix yet is why every text message I get is now from "Unknown". it used to work fine, seems to have started happening after I updated my droid turbo 2 to marshmallow. anyone know how to fix this? I've tried all the obvious things (unpaid, forget, re-pair, turn messaging on then off, etc.)

That does not work, I changed from 3 screens conf to split screens and that is not what it is.
