I will offer the shackle flip upgrade for now.
I don't see a major benefit using different shackles in the stock hanger.
Edit: here is Joe's @Brosefff 2016 with Deaver spring under HD pack and shackle flip

I like it! I'd probably end up staying with the inverted shackles if I did SUA just to limit my lift.

Depends on how much weight you carry and if you choose Deaver springs, since they only lift 1"

This shows an inverted shackle, which is bad.

I'm really excited with what you have in the works and the changes you've been making. I'm waiting to see the SUA kit, shock mount, and re designed flip kit. Only reason I haven't bought this so far is because you are always improving your product, so I'm waiting to see the perfected setup (and hopefully a nice discounted group buy suspension kit with the above mentioned products :fingerscrossed:)

But....but....but, then I will have to re-buy when the better stuff comes out. I only have a limited number of excuses to give to the warden before she starts asking questions like "didn't you already do that?"

Why is an inverted shackle bad for SUA?

There's no room for the leaf to compress, unless there's something I'm missing or a way for it to move back down and then out.

    Hmmm

Ever looked at DMZFab LT trucks? They setup their shackles just like that TC kit. Id bet there is a good reason why they set it up that way.

Perhaps one of the more seasoned LT guys could offer more information on it. :)

That truck has the DMZ custom shackle hanger and it's really nice, only bad thing I could say is it requires the springs to be moved outboard because of the frame rails, which is part of the reason it needs new front spring mounts in addition to being designed for longer spring. It just requires considerable fab

Also, the design is suited to higher speeds, but less suitable for slow crawling over rough terrain only due to the hangers being lower than stock.

In the picture it looks like it's laying flat against the frame, at least on my phone. A little further digging looks like it's a completely different shackle design where the shackle looks like it's actually rotated from the stock position.

    Found this on another forum.

Compression vs. Tension is completely different. For instance, with a positive arch spring, and the shackle starting at vertical, a compression shackle will effectively lower the spring rate as it compresses, and the shackle angle increases (spring eye moves back). In the same situation with a tension shackle, the spring rate goes to infinity (subject to physical failure and deformation) as the spring compresses. This is why most all full size trucks (expected to haul loads) come with tension shackles.

    Source: http://ck5.com/forums/threads/leaf-spring-theory.105228/

Tension shackle is like what the Tacoma has from the factory. A compression shackle is what the Archive kit and other "flip" kits convert to.

I've heard many people say that you get a lot more up travel out of a SUA set up but it seems that it depends heavily on the shackle orientation. Thinking more, maybe it makes sense that you see a lot of desert race type trucks with tension style shackles. If you're going to be going fast and possibly getting air you'd want the springs to offer adequate resistance upon landing, right? If a tension shackle increases spring rate (stiffness) in bump then there would be less chance of landing hard on the bump stops. With a compression shackle the spring rate decreases (softens) in bump thus perhaps giving more chance of landing very hard on the bump stops.

That being said sometimes you do see race trucks with compression shackles. Usually they are 9 or 12" and pivot from above the frame, like this.

There's a lot to think about...

I ended up leaving 4.5" of up travel, with 7.5" of down travel. That hits the bump stop at 4" and that should leave me with plenty of room. But maybe I missed something? :/

If you cycled it properly and measured 6 times and cut once you should be good

We cut 6times and measure once. Will that work ;) Had a shop do it so it wasn't Joe-Shmo hacking away lol.

@mrbedgood Been following this thread lately for another option for shock relocation setup. This is why I'm holding off on GB with DSM and BAMF :)

Oh I see. Yea I've been following this thread too. I'm going to do the shackle flip as well. I'm just been eyeing BAMF kit for along time and it's one of the better ones out there. IMO
