It depends on who you ask. It definitely increases stiffness, but some say it "rides like a truck" while others say it is an unbearable ride. It's also he general consensus that it will ride better with aftermarket coils instead of preloading the 5100s.

Preload is never a good thing, whether people think it's a good ride or not.

Select the spring to accomplish the task at hand, select the proper damper to control the spring.

When running unmatched wear tires, run best tires up front. They take more of a beating with steering and braking.

I had a similar question. I have a 2.7 SR5. I run a lot of highway driving so I really don't want to do anything that will require taller tires. I have the stock 245/75/16s also. Most I would want to do is add my BFG 265/70/16s that I took off of my Z71. Anyways, I do mild offroading but it's mostly trail stuff, not really crawling. So I figured a good set up would be 5100s all the way around. Leave rear stock height and set the front at .85. Does that seem like the best set up considering circumstances? If so, I assume it is just buy the 4 shocks, have them installed and get an alignment. That's it? Or should I consider a diff drop or different spring for the front, even with that minimal lift? Thanks.

For you, I think that sounds perfect! Also, you don't have to do the rear. I recommend it because it'll ride a little better, but it's not totally necessary.

Exactly. Just spend the extra cash and upgrade the springs so you don't have to preload the shocks. If you don't have the money to include springs, you probably shouldn't be lifting your truck anyways....
