If a bunch of guys with hand tools could build it back in the 1800s, than surely the government organizations in charge or restoring it should have no problems.

Realisticly though, there's some private Alpine Tunnel group that restored the buildings up at the tunnel, they might push for and help getting it fixed.

Unfortunately they would have nothing BUT problems. Red tape and BS makes something simple into impossible. AKA Needle's Eye Tunnel... all Boulder County would have to do if they wanted it open is say they did...

May just have to go check it out and see for myself. Woodstock is the little town I was thinking may be the current end of the trail.

When do you think you will be in the area? I'm planning on leaving here in the AM and heading up. If I time it right, I should be in Buena Vista in time for a burger and fries at K's.

I wont be up till afternoon/early evening. I'll sit on CB/FRS radio if you'll be over there! Old lady can't get off work til 2-3 so that's holding us back from leaving earlier.

I haven't been there, but Woodstock looks to be on the left fork, as coming from Hancock, and the right fork goes towards Alpine and Williams, with the slide after the turn to Williams, but before the tunnel area, if you can visualize that.

Random.. anyone here carry chains on their rig? Are they worth buying for getting caught in shitty muddy conditions or ice/snow? I could see them being useful in an expo/trip situation, especially in a mountainous climate with the quick weather

Better to ask what I have not done.
I carry two sets for the truck. Unless I'm in snow and know that there will be little articulation I only run them on the rear. They rubbed with the 285s so I'm sure it will be worse now but I bought the middle size so that 32-36 can run them and that makes it nice when with a group incase some one else needs them.

good call. So they're sized to fit multiple dimensions of tyres? I've been putting thought into getting some for the winter. I'll be using the taco to access early season skiing coming up in a couple months so i'd like to be super ready by then

p.s. still down to bust some caps tmrw before I head out to BV?

Sure im down to go play tomorrow! And the chains i have are for low speed-30mph or less and are very aggressive, they have a point on them where you hook the chain on on the tightest point you can get it then has 3 tensioners on them to do the final tension. I have to drive them for a few feet then readjust sense you have to get a cross bar under the tire.

Also dont buy any heavy gauge wire. I have a ton of welding cable that is the best stuff to get and if i dont have the right size i get whole sale on it.
