Sand in the tank, headlights, or electrical issues, the saga continues for the 4th time? (10/9/18)

The only two places it could of been was the Palomar inn or the Steve's rental trailer on pismo beach. Neither have surveillance in the parking.

But the Palomar is a small lot surrounded by open windows and people coming and going. Steve's is on the beach, with people everywhere in constant view if the trailer so honestly I'm not sure.

I still think some how pressure washing it forced sand into it. The truck ran great till it got wet. If someone pour sand in my tank at any of these places it would of caused problems a lot sooner

 

Are you serious? Don't you think that's a bit of a coincidence - seeing as how the wave took his truck out shortly before it died for good? How often do people get sand randomly put in their gas tank? Did any other cars in the area get sand in the tank? I'd bet money they didn't, but unfortunately there's no way to prove that.

So some random guy was walking around with a cup/bag of sand and a funnel or tool to keep the little fuel check valve/door open while he poured it in a random truck. And he just hit one truck and called it a night?

Why are you fighting logic on this one? Just because sand infiltrated one Tacoma doesn't mean it'll happen to all of them! There was possibly some sort of defect where the fuel line wasn't fully contained/sealed causing OPs truck to be more susceptible to infiltration. Theres also a lot of power in waves, even small ones, which could've contributed to the infiltration somehow.

This is a far more likely scenario.

it does. but he was talking about the high pressure AKA direct injectors.

 

The tank and system are under pressure...if your cap or system leaks you will get a check engine light...per my dealer service department...

 

Yea. It never threw a code prior.

I have no clue how or why sand got there

 

Update.

Truck is running just fine... I even decided to brave it and hose down the engine bay, as it had residual sand in it... (I was parked head on into a wind storm at the beach so I'm sure that combined with driving didn't help)

And... it didn't explode!

 

Update, went to pismo...hit a wave coming up the beach, water came up about to my hubs, everything under the truck was probably splashed. No issues since. Except stuff that wasn't painted rusted almost immediately

 

One thing I did look for and notice, a couple little grains of sand inside the fuel neck when I went to fill up. I'm thinking just a hair of sand was stuck in between the cap and neck and fell in when I took the cap off. Pretty sure OP had someone dump sand down the tank though lol

 

I need to go camping again...

6680 miles now, trucks running without a hitch, haven't done any off roading yet however. Currently getting 19 MPG city.

We're going up to Tahoe in 2 weeks lol. Prob be up for a Hollister trip in the beginning of August when I go on vacation

 

I've used throttle/ebrake and throttle/brake when off roading in Colorado trying to climb rock fields going up and never had any over ride throttle shut down.

 

Let me know, it's only a ~2 hr drive for me to tahoe

 

We are going up to South Lake Tahoe on Sunday. Ultimately plan to end up at Gold Lake area later in the week. It would be cool to meet up with folks to check out some easy-moderate trails.
