    hey guys,

New here. If anyone knows of a thread on here to direct me to the answer for this question, please let me know.

I'm looking to buy a 2016 Tacoma. Never thought it was a possibility, until my wife surprisingly agreed it was our best bet. I test drove an I4 RWD SR Crew cab at the lot. (Edit: I really liked this truck, I just need a 4wd) This was only to feel out the dealer, and see the interior. I'm going to buy a 4wd V6 when the time comes. My question: is an SR5 worth a couple grand more? I used to have a wrangler TJ and I loved the bare bones package. An SR (with convenience package) has more options than I have ever had. In middle TN, SR Double Cab V6 4wd is priced between $31-33k. If I'm spending that much I can go a little more if it's that much better. Thanks for any input.

I'd personally get the SR5 if those were my only choices. But I do a lot of driving and the extras are nice to have on longer trips. Especially when others are in the car. The SR might be bare bones like your previous vehicles, but this is a Tacoma, it's a different vehicle that shouldn't be an SR unless it's a company vehicle (IMO).

In the end, you're the only one that can make this decision. It's your vehicle, not others.

Thanks for your response, pal. All the salesman really told me was maybe satellite radio and a different type of tire pressure monitor. I also assume an SR will be a company truck, but not a V6 double cab 4wd. Like I say, though, if my wife is willing to go along this far I may even be able to pull off a sunroof. Lol

The SR5 in the V6 comes with an auto dimming rear view mirror with compass, upgraded lcd gauge display with individual tpms, outside temperature, etc., variable intermittent wipers (SR just has two settings, high and low), cruise control for (additional option on SR), and fog lights.

Honestly, quite a few of the guys with the upper trims recommend going SR5 and adding upgrades if you're on a budget or don't need some of the trim specific items.

I'm a minimalist too and I think the SR5 is the best value for guys like us. You get enough of the useful features and it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. Like others have said though, in the end its up to you.
