Don't think they can fix it "wrong". It's an easy fix for them.
You'll really enjoy it once you get it back.

sorry if i double post here but i wanted to ask this question here too. i'm most likely buying a 2010 sport this week, just waiting for it to come into my dealer...do you guys suggest taking this tsb with me and telling the manager i want this done and the Leaf spring tsb done before i even take delivery of the truck? or should i wait say a month or so and just go back to the dealer and have them do it then after i "experience" the tsb problems? and is it better to contact toyota directly before going to the dealership?

Newbie here, this is my first post and I've been following this thread since I got my brand new 2010 Tacoma 4x4 DC. I've notice the tranny lag from day one. I thought it would eventually disappear, but it hasn't (1700 miles). Untill today, I took it in to the dealers and with no hesitation they know what I was talking about. And about two hours later it was done, what a difference. Now I can truly say I love my truck! Thanks TW!!!

Done yesterday it's day and night.

Taco John: the sympton is that it shifts to 1, but then waits until higher rpm to shift back to 2. it should stay in second

Now it's fixed and the ride is smooth in the parking garage:)

Had it done today, it took 30 minutes. Truck is night and day better. I only drove it home but it did not go to 1st turning into the subdivision I live in and it did it all the time before the TSB. No slipping feeling through the gears and if you kick down on it man it goes now. I was waiting around and went looking for my salesman, cool guy me and him hit it off from the get go. I explain what is up with my truck he listens and said "let me go get one off the lot and drive it". He came back with one exactly like mine even had the 1st set of VIN numbers that are similar to mine and will be covered under the TSB. The truck had been loaned out and had 495 miles on it. I drove it and it did not act like mine, it shifted normal or the way it should. When they called me about mine I was nervous at 1st but as soon as I got on the road I knew it was better. Service manager personally took care of me and I had a copy of the TSB in hand. They never drove the truck. They simply performed the TSB from my request. Cool beans can't wait to drive into work tomorrow:D My truck had 3168 miles on it at the time of the TSB. it is a 2010 built in 9-09 at the NUMMI plant.

hi guys im new here i just bought a 2010 Tacoma DC. I downloaded the TSB and check the VIN #s, my VIN # is after 3TMJU4GNXAM096560 should I worry about it? It says on the TSB page that this TSB applies to vehicles before the production change effective VIN's.

Ok, how can I tell if my 2010 tacoma needs this?
The tsb says vehicles produced before this VIN 5TELU4EN3AZ697663 for 4x4.

do I just look at the last 6 digits and it should be below 697663?

"technically" it only "needs" it if you notice a problem in the 1-2 upshift (lag). However, if your VIN falls within range, I would just get it done just to be sure (simple 30 minute in and out). Should be a no hassle thing if your dealer is at all reputable.

If I remember correctly, LU64E was on the list of the ones that could get it done, so you should be good to go

EDIT: I found the list, and these are ones doing it... JU62N, KU72N, LU42N, MU52N, TU62N, UU42N. If you do not have any of these in you VIN, you cannot get it done. But be advised these are off of the 09 TSB, I have not yet found the TSB document for the 10s. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Got the TSB for the transmission done yesterday; they pretended to not know what was going on when i talked to them on the phone but I brought the TSB with me and they did it with no hassle. When picked it up the service guy said this does not always fix the issue. Drove for about 2 hrs today and it shifted perfect.

They ordered the parts to update the springs also. So if you're in Houston -- Don McGill on the West will do the TSBs. :)

I didn't notice the trans shift problem for the first 150 miles or so--now with almost 400 miles I think it's getting worse! I can't take it. Taking it in Tuesday for that, and to try and get the spring TSB (Hauled a not real heavy piece of equipment in the bed and thought I was riding on the frame!)--they said they had to jack it up and inspect part numbers or something for the spring TSB.

I had this done on Friday and am a little disappointed. It fixed the first gear issue but hasn't appeared to do anything to improve smoothness of the transmission in general. Compared to my wife's BMW its shifting is extremely rough and jerky...am I expecting too much from Toyota? (This is my first automatic.)

ok, I guess I was not clear. That VIN I listed IS the VIN mentioned in the TSB as the last VIN number to be included in the TSB fix (i.e. any truck with VIN produced before are included).

I did NOT list my VIN. My VIN's last 6 digits is higher than that listed in the TSB, however I DO feel the transmission shifting problem at low speeds.

I tried to google how to read the VIN number, and it says the last 6 numbers is the serial number of the vehicle, all the other characters simply tells you when/where/what that vehicle is.

If you are truly having issues then take your vehicle to a dealer and see if they will address the issue. The worst that can happen is that Toyota won't approve the work. I'm thinking since it's just a re-flash you won't meet too much resistance.

I called my dealer today (Gullo Toyota - Conroe, Tx), Service Mgr had no idea of the TSB for trans (nor did he know about rear leaf TSB added for 2010 models). They want me to leave the truck with them to determine if it needs work.....
I read lots of posts on here where you guys have no trouble getting the TSB's completed.... its frustrating to get the run around from Customer Service and the dealers

Question/thought: Shouldn't Toyota have a process for notifying all Service Mgr about new/updated TSB's????
I cant believe a customer should ever get a response "no i havent heard of that" when I have the TSB in my hands.
