So I've read through this whole thread and the general consensus seems to be in favor for the afe intake over the rest. Besides it's enclosed air filter what's the benefit of the afe over say the k&n intake? I'm trying to decide if the price is worth it, and I am aware that any performance gains will be marginal at best.

What's wrong with just a afe drop in filter.
I'm only on day 1 with my Tocoma so be easy on me.

One selling point for me is the availability of an oil-less filter.
I plan on picking up AFE ProDry filter #21-91092 if/when I get my intake.

There is nothing wrong with an AFE drop in filter...you just wont get as much free flow and you wont have the roar. I just took my AFE intake off and put the stock back on. I could tell instantly that the throttle response was gone and the truck was a little sluggish. So before putting it all back on I ordered a drop in and the throttle response is back to almost exactly what it was with the whole intake. I had other reasons for taking the intake off or else it would never have come off, but since the drop in is making me pretty happy I now have an AFE intake for sell.

I yanked that charcoal filter out of the lid and it made it a smidge louder.

I would definitely have to install the rest of it if I bought it. Would think they would have made it a package kit.

    I'm sticking to K&N ...
Heres a picture of when I finished installing it for anyone wanting to see the intake.

Instantly feel a quicker throttle response, and quicker acceleration getting on the highway.

I haven't went in for the TSB update yet but already feel like I can maintain speed and gear going uphill with the intake compared to losing speed and downshifting without it.

No one would ship to me, but I'm only stationed in CA. I have a residence out of state so I went that route.
