Toyota makes the Yaris and the land cruiser. Are they the same?

And this has WHAT to do with the discussion? We are talking about a specific part. I worked on a packaging line at a parts manufacturer many years ago. The only difference between a part in a GM box and a part in a Mopar box was the box. Parts came off the same assembly line, then we were simply told we are making "XYZ" parts today and that told us which boxes, and instructions to use, and sometimes which sticker to stick on the part before packaging it up.

How does that relate two two completely different vehicles? Try to follow this discussion. While in junior college, I worked at a Northern Electric factory that made all sorts of electrical things, electric blankets, blenders, coffee pots, etc. Exactly the same deal. The only difference between a $50 sears branded electric blanket and a $30 J.C. Penney blanket was the box and the stickers on the controls. There is an electric tool manufacturer in Jackson TN that does the same for drills, saws, routers, etc.

If you are a parts "bigot" you are an idiot. Any good mechanic will tell you that. The primary difference between toyota-branded parts and after-market branded parts is the price, in 99+% of the cases. The only people that believe branded parts are better are the dealerships because of the profit margin involved.

I'm well aware my insurance paid for it. I'm paying the increased rates...

A lot of parts in parts houses are remanufactured, not all and there are options, I used to sell it. But, there is a difference in several different aftermarket parts vs OEM.

Here is a good read for those that persist in wanting to replace their fuel filter for no reason.

    http://www.supramania.com/forums/co...ilter-myth&s=5fffb1ff7d956fde25d6f250567d0fbf

Click on Great Fuel Filter Myth

Why were people in North America still replacing these costly and difficult, and risky to replace fuel filters with NO instructions or any valid technical reasons for doing so??? It soon became apparent to the Engineers that fuel filter replacement was so deeply ingrained into the North American culture that people just could not break their highly addictive fuel filter habits.

I had many phone calls: "Where the hell is the dam fuel filter any way?? What lame brained idiot put the fuel filter up there where I can't even get at it? He sure didn't know a dam thing about what he was doing! I could sure teach him a thing or two about engineering cars." All I could say was " Why are you replacing the fuel filter?? Why?? The answer was usually " I always replace fuel filters. I won't ever risk having a fuel filter plugging up. So I asked, "Have you ever had one plug up???" Of course not stupid! Because I always replace them. That's why" How can you ever argue with such success???

I have too. 1997 GMC Sierra with 110,000 miles. Started slowly losing power when the throttle was depressed, changed fuel filter, got power back. Not sure if it had a metal or plastic tank, that might be an important piece of info.

I'm sure your GMC didn't have a Toyota fuel filter or a long life filter in 1997.

I was with my truck most of the time. Not much time for anyone to do it. And it was parked openly in public when I was away. On a beach..

Dunno anymore. Coulda been some anti military California nut job hippie piece of shit. Hence why I never wanted to come out here to begin with lol

Are aftermarket parts as good as OEM? Some are, some are not. Would I put low cost replacement parts in the fuel system of a brand new truck? Only if I had no other option.

Did his insurance company get robbed on labor and probably some markup on the parts? Of course; that is what dealership service departments do. But fixing a new, under warranty truck in your driveway with parts ordered from Ebay is probably not a good idea. Once it gets 140k on it then by all means stay away from the dealership and fix it yourself.

Since the world is full of assholes with no respect for other people's property Toyota probably should have included a locking gas cap or access door to prevent this kind of nonsense in the first place.
