I have a 1998 Taco, Base, 2.4 liter. I need to haul firewood (in the bed, not in a trailer). I have recently found that that the OEM shocks are not adequate for heavy loads. Does anyone have any ideas on increasing my hauling capabilities? Coil-over shocks or leaf spring helpers? I have searched for coil-overs and have had zero luck.

    Thanks for the help.

Get a fullsize truck or a trailer....Adding stuff to the suspension doesn't mean that it can handle more weight.
My guess is your full load of firewood was at or above the max payload for your rig...

Thanks for the info. I might have to do just that; switch to a trailer instead of relying on the truck bed.

And a stronger axle, and upgraded brakes, and a reinforced drive train. You can't just add a little bit of stuff and then go over the max cargo capacity on a regular basis. It sounded like the OP is using this to move wood regularly (like a daily job or regular side gig).

Trailer is the way to go- TONS more capacity.

I took it as he needed to haul a fair amount of weight, but not too often.
If you are going to do this a lot, then yes, absolutely get a trailer. And if it is a lot of weight you will want to have brake helpers.

I would just recomend hauling several smaller loads instead of 1 big load.

Yeah man...Keep your eye on craigslist and pick up a trailer that needs a little TLC for cheap.

You'll be far more effective as a hauler and you'll be safer.
