    I wanted 3/8 too but got 25 extra feet over the 3/8. Just depends what you want to spend I guess. Have any pictures of yours installed?

    Next time I need rope I am only gonna by 80' of 3/8". And then pack a Couple lengths of 25' extensions. This way I can pull on my last wrap on the drum sooner which is where you get max pulling power.

    That's not a bad idea, but I don't want to have to carry around extensions because I'm lazy and too OCD for that.

    I just don't want to have to find a tree that is further away to be a able to get my max pull strength like I have to now. Or set up a snatch recovery to insure max pull. My truck is a fat pig so I need all the power I can get.

    Maybe she should just go on a diet? :D

    Double line pull with a snatch block. Twice as much rope off the drum.

    Still with 80' of rope I only need a tree roughly 30' out. With 125' of line I need to find a tree roughly 52' out.

    Just saying. :D

    What winch do you have? My m8000 has pulled my truck out of some funk with only a few wraps of the drum and its not a featherweight.

    Come up 9000v. The winch has the power to pull me out of all situations so far with one wrap off or down to the last wrap. I was simply putting out there the reasoning for a shorter line vs a longer line.

    Can a sheep-shank withstand loading at these levels? It'll limit your pull distance some, but how often do you need to get your front bumper all the way to the tree?

    Finally got my fairlead from low range and the custom splice winch rope spooled. Added an extra 15 ft of webbing to the beginning.

    Not bad considering I paid 250 for the winch and the line was 150.
