I would have been all over a DCLB OR with a manual tranny. Very shortsighted for Toyota to omit that from US offerings.

I have CM 4x4,but would not even think about taking it to some of the places I have taken the 85 the 06 and 12 to. Its just too big,but is more capable in other ways.

I'd like to know what smitty99 does for a living. I'm retired so I spend an hour or so a day during the week reading here but it seems every time I look at the forum he's made a comment. If I'd spent as much time online when I was working I'd have had my butt fired.

I'd absolutely buy my truck again.
As much as the tacoma is a great fit to my wants/needs, if ford re-released the FX4 Level II Ranger for a similar price, it would be a tough decision.

Yep, the next one I buy (when the next gen comes out) I will get an auto most likely. I can still deal with a manual but in another 10 years, I think I will want an auto.

I bought the Coma because I needed something that would fit in my garage, Also, I wanted an off road capable yet small truck for driving trails in the forest when hunting. I need to get into tight spots. The Coma was the perfect setup for this. Except for the transmission, I like the truck. With that said, there's things that should have been, could have been, but aren't. Powered USB, drivers grab handle, more drivers seat adjustability, 110V power outlet in the cab, a hood that opens a bit further, better quality speakers, passenger side floor mat retainers, LED lights, to name some. I like the GoPro mount but would give it up for some of the aforementioned.

Smitty, I use to live at 68th and Camelback.

If Toyota had some development money to spend on their vehicles they would do so. But they don't have that money. They had to pay a whopping $1Billion dollars for unintended acceleration, retrofit about a million vehicles with carpet hooks. On top of that Toyota has replaced about 500,000 frames on Tacomas and Tundras to the tune of $15000 each, also did the buyback on Gen 1 Tacomas.

On top of those financial buttkickings, Toyota suffered the massive 9.3 earthquake that wrecked a lot of their R&D facilities in Japan. So it's not a surprise Toyota hasn't developed some better engines for the Tacoma and Tundra. They haven't developed a better engine for any other model line either. They still have the 2.0l, 2.7l, the 3.5l, the 4.6l, the 4.0l, the 5.7l all of which have been around for a long time. Lexus hasn't had upgraded engines for about 10 years, they still use the 3.5l, the 4.6l, the 5.7l. Toyota is in a bad cycle right now.

Sounds plausible not sure I'm buying that theory however. But well constructed considerations either way!

Wow this thread derailed! Might as well chime in too. It seems like Smitty99 has had every single issue on his truck. I would guess that of those who have had problems, most of use maybe had one or two. I would be pissed if I loved my old Tacoma and every time I droves new one something was going wrong. After my Jeep Grand Cherokee I wanted a new and reliable car! If my Taco behaved like that I would be going insane, and you bet I would be complaining about it on Jeepforum.
