i bought a 99 4runner about a month ago
plan was to sell the tacoma

reason; getting another dog. not quiet enough room in the AC cab

thought it would be a fantastic idea

sell truck for 14-16k

buy 4runner for 5-8k, same engine, rear diff, 4wd, done.
have 8k for mods (omg gasm'd)



then i brought home the 4runner
and my lil bro started asking for parts of my truck

and i just couldn't do it

then i thought about it more

and couldn't do it

and just

couldn't

do it


so now, i'm on my last hoorah. i ordered a hard shell, shows up in 2 weeks.

praying it meets all my needs and i am happy with it. never had a canopy before

my thoughts are if i like the shell, build a bed platform for the dog(s) with storage underneath, and then have a rear bumper w/ swingout built.

 

Yeah I just went thru your thread. Saw you took off the truck. Well I hope the new plan of action works for you. I have been throwing around the Idea of a shell. But wife says it looks like a old mans truck then. I said shut up. Now im trying a new direction.

i thought about a soft top
but it wouldn't work with my bed rack

thought about having a canvas built custom to it, but it wouldn't work with my rtt

didn't want to have a rack built again, plus the hardshell has more windows for the dog(s) and some security so I can load it up the night before with peace of mind.

I think you will like It. And being able to keep your truck is awesome aswell cause you woukd regret getting rid of it

Like I told my father when he shook his head when I told him I was selling the 4runner,
it's not that the 4runner isn't reliable. it's basically the same vehicle.
but if I was so inclined to, I would trust this truck going to Alaska and back, over to Maine, across streams, over rough terrain, or hwy. Doesn't matter.

Put a bit of blood into it and there's a reason why I call her old reliable.

although I do want to get some stickers, if I am going to keep it I need to start personalizing it more. I've always considered resale value when doing mods, and putting things on the truck. Now to make it unique.

 

Fuck resale. Keep It forever and ever! As much as I would like to start a new build im not going to I would end up with the same truck doing the same shit to it. Instead im convincing the wife to sell her mall crawler tacoma and starting a t4r build. Something better than what she has going on now with the db lift and headache for me that truck is
