2016 Tacoma, zero catastrophic engine failures, 1 with scarred valves from a tool dropped in during assembly. 2016 Tacoma ftmfw. Oh, I'm biased so disregard.

I sold my 16 Limited yesterday - not because I didn't love the truck. I bought it last year to replace a 13-year old Silverado that I bought new and wanted a smaller truck that still had the capability of driving about anywhere. What changed for me a month ago is towing a 22' trailer that is around 5,700 pounds loaded for a trip with a tongue weight just over 800 pounds (unless I fill up the holding tank south of the axles to lighten the front). While the truck is rated for up to 6,400 pounds it really can't do a lot of long haul towing with much over 4,000 IMO. I'd rather not have white-knuckled drives and not be able to keep a steady 60 MPH in a headwind without downshifting to 3rd. God knows what it would be like going over Raton Pass or Trail Ridge or Loveland - maybe second gear at 30 MPH? So I now have a full-size truck rated for 10,300 lbs with leather, power rear window, twice the room for the dog in the second row with a flat platform for him to lay on and a V8 400+ lb-ft of torque. I'll miss the 21 MPG around town but not the 9-10 MPG towing in 3rd and 4th with the Tacoma.

I enjoyed it while it lasted and would by another if not towing a big trailer. This forum gave me a lot of information and I was able to share a few things I learned along the way. I'll still come back from time to time to see what's going on and to hear what @smitty99 and @gearcruncher have to say and to ignore people like @The hammer who thinks everything is a nail to hit.

Have fun, guys and gals and try not to get banned .

Hell yes! Either a 2016 Tacoma again or a TRD Pro 4runner.

    I can't resist: Yankee's Suck! Yankee's suck!

That's what happens when you live in Massachusetts for 10 years before moving back to Texas.

No....not much of a upgrade from 2015...in fact lost led taillights...dash nobs are difficult to see setting choice...6 speed tranny is shifting constantly..I owned a 2014 and it was a better truck .... just my opinion...good luck

A Ram 1500 with 3.92 gears and the 5.7L engine. I'll catch a lot of :crapstorm:for that but it suits our needs now better than a Tacoma. My wife was comfortable in it and also driving it so that counts. The last Chrysler product I owned was a '63 Plymouth Fury with a 318 and push button transmission. Bought it for $300 and sold it for $300. Never gave me a problem. We'll see what a 2016 model with Fiat behind it brings.:fingerscrossed:

Well I'd tell you that you're going to be hating that "Fix It Again Tony" when you're at the dealership every month and the transmission fails...but I have a 2016 Tacoma already doing that to me!

Hope you enjoy the truck. If I DO step up to full size I'm either going 2500 Duramax or 2500 Cummins!

Because I also tow a trailer and a boat, I've been looking at the Ram 1500 and Ford F150.

I came from a full size 1500 Sierra and wanted a Coma for the same reasons as you...getting around on those unmaintained forest roads for hunting, camping, etc. I think now if I'm going to go through the trouble of driving around a full sized rig I might as well go big or go home. That's the only reason I'd look at the 2500's now. Plus...diesel...

I considered the 2500 (chevy or ram) but those were overkill for our needs. My sister has a '99 2500 Silverado with the 454 with a 5th wheel setup to haul horses. She doesn't need it anymore and I considered it (only 50K miles). It's amazing but her truck doesn't even have a scratch on the bed. It's problem is 12 MPG on a good day.

I considered the diesels but the extra up front costs, maintenance and the fact my wife couldn't live with it made the decision easy.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Ram reliability is not as as bad as some might think. We'll see. It has all the things I wanted/needed in a truck and was not overpriced like the F-150. I had the Silverado for a long time and never had any problems - just regular wear items like battery, brakes, etc. I looked at them but the dealers here were a**holes so I walked out.

For me the Tacoma feels huge. Part of the impression may be due to the hood spreading like a massive playing field forward of the windshield. The previous truck was a '98 Nissan Frontier, the one before that a '75 Datsun. Leaving the Toyota dealership with the new truck I was following the wife driving the Frontier and realized my height of eye was higher than the Frontier's roof. While I have not checked actual measurements, the Tacoma is at least a few inches wider and several longer even though the Frontier had the comparable extended cab. The turning radius on the Tacoma is a lot more. The 2016 Tacoma feels a lot like full sized trucks of the 70s. I would prefer smaller, but vehicles generally seem to be bloating.

No for me. My 6 previous Tacoma's were great, but the 2016 model has been very disappointing during my 10 month/40K mile usage.

    Good luck with your decision!

OT, but I don't think you'll regret your choice. I've had my 2016 Outdoorsman for 3 months and 7500 trouble free km's (I'm Canucknucklehead) and could not be happier. The interior is comfortable and the ergonomics outstanding. The uconnect is very user friendly. Needless to say, there's bags and bags of power under the hood and the eight speed shifts buttery smooth and always seems to be in the right gear. Mine unfortunately sat in the airport parking lot through a violent thunderstorm while I was at work and is now pockmarked with hail dents. Paintless dent repair should make it look new again, but was pretty pissed when I got home and saw the damage.
