Best subwoofer?

I am looking at getting a good 8in sub to go in a small box about .35, .40cu.ft. I want it to have good lows and be very clear. I am looking to spend at tops $150. Ive been looking at JL w3, kicker L5, memphis mcp8d4 , or Image Dynamics ID8v.3. These subs all look good and are under the $150 price. As of now I can only push 100w rms but have plans to get a bigger amp. Any more subs out there that I sould look for that are better? Ill try to make a poll. Feel free to add more options if I dont list all of them. Thanks!

 

Its hard to get too much bass from and 8in woofer but if you put it in the right box it should sound pretty good in a small space. I have heard the memphis 12in version and it sounds very good in the small air space. I would also recomend the kicker compVT shallow. i installed the 12in version in a guys truck and it has pretty good bass.

 

Thanks. Its just that the box I have now is as big a box I can fit in my truck. I have a mtx 10'' and it just dont sound good because the box is just too small. I think the 8'' sub would sound best in the box I have. I dont care about very loud bass I just want it to be clear unlike the mtx.

 

This is what you need. It's called a Sound Splinter RL-i8 and it's marvelous. Yes it's $50 more than you want to spend but it's worth it. Spend the extra money and then get an amp that's worth it's circuit board!

IDQ8v3 sounds good. i would stay away from kicker though

 

I would choose rockford fosgate over any of those sub companys

 

its just like they say --you get what you pay for and jl is the way to go ..i have jl mids and high and 10w7 sub best money i ever spent !

 

Jl is a very good company. You may spend a little more on it but if you set it up right it could last forever. I havn't had to much experience with JL though. I am more of an alpine guy but they don't really have a sub for your type of application. I would look into the memphis a little more though.

Does any have any experience with Ascendant audio? My friend had one custom built for him. Its an 8'' but they put triple stacked magnets on it. He said it hit crazy hard for an 8'' but the cone blew out and their still fixin it.

 

You could definitely rock a Memphis shallow mount in there. You can find a 10" aroung $150. You are not as limited as you think. Do some research on the car audio forums, there is an overwhelming anout of informaiton on there. Most of the guys are like the TW folk, ready and willing to provide advice and tips as well. Thanks I had looked at the shallow mount 10's but most of the said the min. air space was just over what I have. But the Memphis looks perfect. Where can I get one? Sonicelectronix is out of stock. Also What about this speaker? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_20742_Earthquake+Sound+SWS-10X+.html Crazy says it has a 28mm Xmax.

I think the ascendant audio sub you're thinking of is the Assassin. And yes it's a VERY good sub.

I just want to add that a lot of the people in this thread are saying, " X brand is good/best get one of them". It really gets to me when people do that because comparing brands is useless when you're buying 1 speaker. Every brand makes more than one speaker so you should compare products.

 

What are the dimensions on the front face where the sub mounts? Can you cut the hole larger and fit a shallow mount 12"? Tell me what the full height dimension is.

 

The box is only 11.5in high. The width is 15in, the top depth is 5in, and the bottom depth is 7in. Its an angled truck box.

 

Sonicelectronix is wrong then under the specs of the memphis it said min. air space is .30cu. ft. Any other shallow mount 10'' sub optimized to work in .40cu. ft.?

 

So the sub face is 11.5" high? I thought that the vertical height was 11.5" and the sub face would be longer since it's the hypotenuse of the triangle.

But I'll bottom line it for you. If you can cut that hole out to be an 11" hole you're in business for the new Stereo Integrity shallow mount sub called the BM. Fits in a shallow box (3.5") and a TINY enclosure airspace. Check it out.

Ok sorry I thought you was talking about the height. It is almost 12'' actualy more like 11 and 14/16. Would the BM be ok with the box i got? It says it needs .50cu.ft.

 

Then I think you might be able to fit it in there if you work some magic with your jig saw and have a few beers while you work.

If that's too close to fit then I think the SB acoustics sub would be best.
