Hey guys, I am new to the forum and have been looking into Toyota recently for a Tundra or Tacoma. I like the Tacoma a lot but I am a little worried about space. I currently own a 2006 Ford F-150 Crewcab. I was wondering if any of you have switched from a full size and regret it because there is not enough room. I don't carry tons of people around with me all the time but I like having it comfortable for them when I do. I also like sitting up higher and having a better view. Parking a bigger truck doesn't bother me but I do like that the Tacoma would be better off road. Forgive me if this has been asked before and I appreciate the help.

Hello and welcome. It will be hard for me to relate because I didn't come from a full size truck. Or even a truck for that matter. More like a 2007 Nissan Altima sedan.

That being said, I didn't buy myself a good little truck for the comfort of my passengers. I really don't have that many honestly.

If you are worried about room in the backseat, I would just get a Tundra. Even though none of my passengers ever complain about the small back seat (it's defiantly smaller than F150) I wouldn't really care that much of they did.

    I love my Tacoma.

prior to my tacoma i owned an 04 f150 and still own a 05 silverado, tacoma is a little narrower so the center console is not as wide but thats about it, i find it very roomy and the back seat has just as much leg room as the silverado. hope that helps

I traded a Chevy Silverado Z71 extended cab for my Tacoma. I do miss the power and sound of the 5.3 but I have so much more room in the garage and I can do everything I ever did with my Silverado. I've towed boats, trailers, hauled sheetrock, plywood, whatever. And I have a double cab Taco so there's plenty-o-room for passengers. It took a little getting used to but no regrets.

I never had a F150, but my son-in-law does. There is considerable difference in size. Quite noticeable installing car seats for the infants. For me, the Tacoma is the right size, but that is totally dependant on what your needs are. I only have people in the back seat once in a while for short trips, works perfect and no complaints from some taller passengers ( 6'3"), but then front seat needs to be forward a little.

Welcome to the site, try out the different trucks and decide what works best for you.

In my opinion....most people out there are driving around in too much truck than what they really need all in the name of "just in case."

I've owned an Exploder before, prior gen not current so was close to f150 dimensions i think, fronts plenty roomy just a little narrower, back legroom isnt bad, but havent had any complaints, still more legroom then anything else besides the exploder I've owned before.

Space won't be the issue with a new Tacoma. It will be the huge difference in power going to the minivan-car girly motor with no low-end nut.

I would suggest test driving a few different times to try and see if its something that youll like. Personally I like the size. Its much more nimble on road and offroad than a full size truck. But everyone has their own preference.

Seriously, have you driven one? I had a Gen 2, and I can tell you this has plenty of power.

I dont quite understand this comment. The 3rd gen motor has almost 100 more hp than the 1st gen motor, and youre calling it girly. By that rationale the 1st gen must feel like a one of those self propelled kiddy cars.

Yeah it has 88 more HP and 45 more lb ft of torque but the gen 3 weighs about 500-700 lbs more too. I was goofing on the girly motor bit but let's be honest, the 3.5 is a car motor. Most trucks people like that low-end torque feel.

Nowadays engine size isnt that big of a deal. liter size doesnt dictate 'car' motor or 'truck' motor. Most of rhe f150 engines are 3.5l. Technology is really paving the way to power. Even during the 90s the japanese were building engines half to a third of the size of domestic engines and producing equal power.

"Even during the 90s the japanese were building engines half to a third of the size of domestic engines and producing equal power."

lol whut? The 3.0 and 3.4 V6 were half the size of the domestics and got equal power? That is 100% false. Was there a 6 liter in the Ranger or a 6.8 liter in the Dakota? Okay, what about full size? Yes, some full trucks had engines twice as big but the Toyota engines never came close to equal power in that so that comment is false.
If anything, Toyota never really cared about matching domestic manufacturer's power ratings. Never has been a concern of them. Most Toyota truck motors are de-tuned somewhat for reliability. I can appreciate that, but the auto does lack power and TONS of people will tell you the same.
Also the 3.5 naturally aspirated engine of the F-150 is gutless was well. The 2.7 and 3.5 EcoBoosts are turbos so they aren't really even comparable.
That being said, I think the TSB does help. I drove one post-TSB and it felt much better.

I honestly don't understand this. By this logic a Ferrari engine would be a truck engine, with its torque and horsepower rating. The engine is suited for gas mileage and towing/off-road capabilities, has nothing to do with what is suited for a car. We aren't talking about a diesel here, so what exactly is a "truck motor"?

The 3.5 isn't suited for towing. Even Toyota admits towing was not a priority with the new Tacoma.

When did I say anything about 3.0 or 3.6. Im talking in general, liter size isnt a big deal. Acura was producing 1.8 liter motors that made 200 hp, 2.4 @240 hp.

Maybe not, even though towing capacity is greater than Gen 2. But if you want a truck to tow heavy weights, than buy a truck that is built for that task. Don't buy a truck that doesn't serve your needs. I wouldn't buy a Hummer if I was looking for a Prius as a commuter car.
