Poor baby... my truck does everything I want it to do well and yours does not. Must be the truck. 17k new Tacomas sold a month and we hear from the same flat tires whining and annointing themselves cognocenti.

I thought the Ridgeline limitation in towing was its independent suspension not power or frame rigidity ?

Probably a combination of things. Unibody or IRS construction doesn't make them less capable of towing. GM and Dodge have been using unibody construction in their vans for years and will have similar tow ratings to their trucks. It's just all about the combination of parts. Some of it is probably how easy you can tow 7000 lbs with what is truck that is on the smaller side..

It would seem to me that towing something that's a candidate for the 51st state would require forethought of towing vehicle. I agree with your analysis of low profile TTs, that was the plan with the Tacoma.

I had a 2007 and 2013 Honda Ridgeline and still believe its a better truck than the new one. Is it better than my new tacoma ......that is not an easy question to answer because the Ridgeline did not have powertrain issues. Toyota should forget atkinson and just make it direct injection, problem solved !!!

Also I believe Honda payload capacity on the Ridgeline included 4 passengers. Every other truck payload capacity only includes the driver.

Thought this heated discussion had petered off yesterday. The flames are still glowing strong in this one.

Yes, however there are folks on this very forum that think 6800 lbs towing is the capability of this truck regardless of what type trailer is being pulled. If you are happy with it thats all that matters.

Trade while they're still hot, I paid 34,800 for my TRD OR I got 34,000. Now I'm driving a 2016 Tundra Platinum, I don't miss the Tacoma at all. It looked awesome, drove like crap.

Thats a great trade price for the tacoma, but i have a feeling they made it up on the Tundra. Dealers are great about shifting money around to make it sound like a great deal. They got my cousin big time last year with the same trade as you, but the tacoma was a 2013. He really likes his tundra though! Tundra's are badass but the Mpg's suck!

Access cab is 6,800 max. Dual cab is 6,500 max if I remember. 15% of that is normal safety zone, I figured 5,250 for my truck is max tow with safety factor. HiLo 22T Base is 3,850 + awning + air cond + spare tire (all options). 4,250. Wife packing, only God knows how much without semi scale. 6,800 way too much for vehicle, surprised trailer dealer let them out the lot.

For what its worth the Tacoma will pull 6800..how well is a different story....the post below from the towing thread was a new trailer, doubt it had brake issues.I pull a trailer about 5700 to 6000 lbs from N Texas down to Goose Island area 2 times a year at least. Not much in the way of flat roads till you get close to the coast...no way in hell would I want to try with a 3rd or 2nd gen ....its beyond the limitations in regards to an enjoyable towing experience..c'mon flat roads and cant hold 60 mph..cant imagine what it was like in the hills.
"Well, the stay at Goose Island was great and the fishing was so-so. After towing around 5,500 pounds for 200+ miles back and forth I've decided to trade-in the Tacoma for a larger truck. It simply doesn't have enough low-end torque for the trips we will be making in the future in the Rockies and other similar terrain. The last 20 miles heading down to Rockport is due south and we had about a 15 MPH headwind. On a perfectly flat road it would not hold 60 MPH without downshifting to 3rd every 1/4 mile or so. We didn't have RVing plans in mind when I bought the truck last year. Oh well, as they say in Louisiana, C'est la vie............................................"

Ugly is subjective, so therefore irrelevant. The 5K tow limit I suspect is over rated just like the Taco's 6400# limit. If I wanted to tow, more than the truck's limitation, I'd buy a different truck. Unibody is one of the it drives better than the Taco. Yes, I drive a Jeep that smokes your Taco.

So TFL Truck can pull 5600 pounds up a mountain and you can't maintain 60 miles per hour?

Was not my post...was in the towing section...not only did weight come into play but the drag the trailer produced while being pulled down the road. The faster you go the more drag the harder the motor has to work to overcome that drag....the aerodynamics of what is being towed trailer wise is a big deal.
