So, Did you create a new/ Reinforce rear cross-member on your truck?

Ever pull off the bed of a Taco? Not going to happen soon but I think I will go Flat bed down the road...

Hey @thefatkid what would signs of a bad alternator be?:anonymous:

    I have

Whining sound, thought it was my power steering

No charing of the batterys then it came on at full power and worked fine then back to nothing later.

    Slight electrical/rubber burning smell

I guess i hope its the alternator and not a wire shorting or loose but i dont have any popped fuses

Do you own a multi-meter? Provided your battery is sufficiently charged, turn the truck on and place the leads on the terminals of the battery. Start turning on electrical accessories like the headlights, blower motor, etc and watch for a voltage drop. If your alternator is good it typically won't let the voltage drop below ~13. If it's bad you'll just see it keep sinking. This is a fairly routine check and there are plenty of tutorials through teh googlez.

It's either that or just take it to an auto parts store that tests alternators for free.

I have a dual battery read out and when the light is on neither of them are charging and when its out is holding a good charge. I just didnt think an alternator would just be so black and white like that. I thought it would have been a slow down hill death

Sounds pretty cut and dry to me. Charge light turn on (note that these usually only work if you have a factory alternator)?

Go tap it with a hammer and see if it starts charging again. That would tell you to stop putting mud in your brushes. You might be able to just get away with a brush replacement and comm cleaning.

That's what I'm thinking and yes I can hit it and it comes on but later will go out. Just making sure I'm not missing something....
