Sounds like a bunch of people are having problems with their knobs. They make a pill for that don't they?

I'm not going to boast and say mine goes to eleven, but it goes high enough. :D

My 2011 JBL volume knob does not have notches either, only the tuning knob does.

Sorry if I'm opening a dead thread but was there ever a solution found for this volume button problem? Mine does the same thing as originally poster stated. Turn volume up and sometimes it goes down and vise versa. Really have to play with it to get the desired volume. Removed knob and it's all in tact which leads me to believe its an internal problem.

Just use the volume up and down buttons on the steering wheel... it overrides the radio knob (which like some of yours does no react instantly when turned... even gets louder a bit while trying to turn it down. It seems to be a digital vs. analog thing... use the up/down buttons instead.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I do not have volume control on my steering wheel. I guess I'm left to just gingerly adjust the volume until I'm forced to buy a replacement radio. Really annoying though lol.

Oh really? I figured the radio volume knob didn't work instantly because of the hands on wheel controls?

My 2009 has done this for as long as I can remember. I believe it to be caused by the contacts between the faceplate and the main body getting loose in the heat. Quick fix is to push in with medium pressure towards the firewall on the face, above the CD slot. Pushing the connector back in slightly.

Always does the trick in my truck, but it happens again after a month or so.

    Hope that helps.

Or save yourself the trouble and just go to aftermarket. A $60 aftermarket radio will work well forever. Toyota can't do the simplest crap...

My 09 has the same quirk. Can be quite annoying at time, even with the controls on the wheel.

Solved - fixed - it was too simple

    Pulled volume knob off
Sprayed Deoxit D5 Contact Cleaner- tiny pulse on low (can comes with 3 settings)
    Spun around a few times

viola - now works like a charm

I Got it on amazon: Hosa D5S-6 CAIG DeoxIT 5% Spray Contact Cleaner, 5 oz.
Probably any spray contact cleaner from Radio Shack or Electronics shops will work

^^^ This! I've had this problem in my 2009 dcsb base model stereo for the past year and it was driving me slowly nuts.

Yanked the plastic knob off the stereo and sprayed a quick shot of a random contact cleaner I had in my garage in the hole. Pressed the knob back on and everything works again.

I was having the same issue in my stock jbl head unit. Bought the Hosa mentioned above and sprayed in the volume know hole and it works. My radio's volume is not skipping and works perfectly .

Mine has does this since I purchased the truck. I'm pretty sure it's just the potentiometer needing cleaning. But I haven't had time or the patience to try to figure out how to get to it.
