Is the above statement in regards to both Gen 2 & 3, or limited to 2nd Gen? The increased weight of the 2016 with or without an aftermarket bumper compresses those coils the way a 2nd gen with an aftermaket bumper doesn't do. If referencing Gen 3 in the statement, do you have any experience with the ride/handling on the 700# coil?

Its pretty much a universal statement, a 700lb spring is only necessary in the most extreme cases of bumper/winch combos on both second and third gen models. And with quality aluminum bumpers now being offered there is no reason why someone should opt to put an additional 100 lbs on the front of their truck.

I just broke down and ordered the Dakars. I have the ICON 1.5" AAL, but after putting the shell on the long bed, and 150lbs of dog in the back, it sags more than I can tolerate. Thanks for the pics, great looking truck!

I will have ICON Stage 4 w/ AAL installed next week, but suspect I'll be doing the same Dakar-kit down the line. My stock sport suspension sits stupid low in the rear with my setup (dog in cab, sliders w/ fill plates, canopy, bed slide, ~300lbs of camping gear) - I've got what I'm estimating to be a 1.5-2" of reverse-rake/bro-lean. Ridonkulous.

    Pop that collar, bruh! Ha!

Let me talk you out of the AAL if you haven't already paid for it. With your setup, the AAL isn't going to give you much sag relief, the factory leafs are pretty soft.

I just ordered Stage 5 last week. A couple more weeks until they are completed. 2.5 coilovers with resi and 700lb springs in the front, standard travel. And 2.5 with resi struts in the rear. I have Dakars and Light Racing UCAs already.

Took her out on some back forest roads over the weekend to test everything out. The washboards, potholes and ruts were no match for this suspension setup. Super stoked!
(Yes, I quoted my own post.)

Been meaning to ask you if you have the take on the ride with the overload and when you took it off? What were the negatives with the overload?

Was also curious if you had to knock out the center pin on the AAL and use a longer replacement with the overload.

If my truck had more than 7k miles I would probably have just opted for the Dakars, but that will be a future project,...did you get more than 1.5" with the OL taken off?

With it in it was very stiff in the rear. When hitting say a speed bump, the front would soak it up well but the rear would bounce over it. On thy hwy it was way to stiff, you could feel every imperfection on the road. It was a constant bump, bump, bump. It wore me out on the first road trip. It made a 3 hour trip feel like 10! The center pin that comes with the aal is plenty long to keep in the overload, even has to be cut down before putting you bump stops back on. With the overload I gained 2" after taking it out I am at 1 1/2" higher than stock. I love the ride in the rear now. I like that it is not as sloppy/ squishy as stock but definitely not too stiff. The front is stiffer than stock but recovers quicker, which I like. Just feels a little less like a car than stock did. (Note I have never owned anything but Trucks and suv's.)

    ICON stage 4 is on!

Removing the overload leaf, the rear netted 1 7/8" of lift (with my canopy + bed slide + hi-lift extreme in bed). Front coilovers were adjusted to match the same amount of lift, compensating for the side-to-side "taco lean," but leaving the same OEM rake (rear slightly higher than front).

Alignment is happening tomorrow, but initial impressions are very favourable. The ride feels firmer and more in control, yet more comfortable at the same time (contradictory, I know). Feels much more connected to the road, and almost as if the seat wraps around me tighter (strange way to describe it, but that's all I got). Reminds me a lot of the 335i I had. Nose dive went down by at least a factor of three. Body roll also decreased significantly. Bumps that would previously send a jolt through my spine are now nothing more than a light shake of the truck.

Expecting the front to settle a bit over time, at which point I'll raise it back up (plenty of adjustability room left over).

    @ELKAHOLIC
How exactly did you install your ICON AAL with the overload spring installed?
First look tells me you have to know out or cut the center pins of the AAL, replace them if you have to cut and run the new center pins up through the overload into the AAL and the rest of your leaf pack....
Is that how you installed them? I have heard there may be a rougher ride but I just cant see it if they are installed correctly....
Can you validate how you installed the AAL with the over load? That would be of great help to me and possibly others who are getting ready to do this....TIA

The new center pins slide in through the overload and then through the aal and factory leafs. They are lose /separate and do not need to be cut out. Just remove the nut and slide the factory center pin out. The new ones come with the aal and are plenty long enough to go through all of it and need to be cut down to fit the bump stops over them. I did have to cut off the front u shaped brackets on the overloads, because they are in the same location of the clamps on the aal.

Looking at it, it t is hard to comprehend why they would make much difference on the ride, but they do. I think the main culprit is the rivets on the u shaped brackets are the first thing to hit. If you want to try it with the overloads I would grind off that rivet and just remove the u shaped bracket. Hope that helps.
