Agreed, I demo'd several bikes on top of my previous two bikes and the Process just feels much better. This is my second dropper post, but I need to have this one fixed. Don't pick up your bike by the saddle if the dropper is down at all. It can screw it up.

I used to do it on my last one all the time without problems, but it started causing issues with this one fairly quickly. When I asked my mechanic why my dropper had so much play in it, he told me lifting the bike by the seat post if the dropper isn't all the way extended will do it. Lesson learned.

    enough to have fun

That's crazy I didnt know that. I have had. A specialized command post for 3+ years no rebuilds no issues and I treat it like a solid post, except I wipe it after every ride haha

Hey folks. I bought this Rocky Mountain Fanatik about 15 years ago. I didn't know a lot about bikes back then - but it worked well enough for me. It's been somewhat babied in all that time. So it's in nearly new condition.
I want to sell it and buy something a little more current - and something that fits me a bit better. But I'm unsure what type of dollar figure to place on it. At the time (new), it had a sticker price around $1400 (Cdn). The store I bought it at was going out of business - so I got it for a pretty sweet deal.
I haven't been able to find another one for sale - to compare. I've seen some that are close - but the prices are all over the place. I suppose I'm wondering what you guys think.

My previous mountain bike is in a similar situation. It's a 2001 K2 Zed 3.0 hard tail that I bought in high school, rode every day, retired when I got to college, and how replaced with a 2015 mtb. When I looked around to try and price mine (and while looking for a new bike) I realized that everything about these bikes has changed. Components aren't even comparable anymore, as the cheaper rear mechs are so much better than some of the better ones a decade ago, for example. I'm keeping mine and will convert it to a commuter bike when I get some time.

If you're really set on selling it, put it up for a couple hundred on Craigslist and see what it grabs. If you don't need the money, consider donating it to shelter or other org that helps people get back on their feet. Or keep it and ride it every now and then and relive the old days!

I appreciate the advice. The bike is simply too small for me. I've gotten into riding a fair bit, in the last few years, (mostly road) - so I've learned a lot about bike fit, and such. That's the main reason for looking for something new. And the hope is....the sale of this one can offset a little bit of the sticker price for the new one. Or at least that's how I'm selling the plan to the wife. Haha

It can be tough to price a bike on the used market, as everything depends on finding a buyer and what they're willing to pay. As for a bike like that you could probably get around $300 +/- $50 or so depending on who you can find to buy it.

Yeah, I hear ya on that. Unfortunately 26" wheels, several generation behind suspension, old components just don't add up to a valuable bike anymore. It's 650b/27.5, carbon everything, 1x11, those them are the buzz words. I'd expect a couple of hundred dollars on Craigslist for your Rocky Mountain, if it even sells. The ads are flooded with 26" bikes like that and there's just nothing to draw people in, not retro, or collectible. Consider Trips For Kids as a donation and claim it as $1,000 on your taxes, you'll be better off financially.

That's what I'm thinking. I have a friend coming by to look at it. If he doesn't buy it, I was going to put it up on Kijiji (similar to Craig's List) - and maybe just high-ball the price at first. If someone bites....great. If not, I can lower it.

Yup. Completely makes sense. I'm still hoping to get something for it. As someone with a road bike, that has roughly under 7 grand invested into it, it's a bit of a tough sell with the wife when the subject of a new bike comes up. haha

I was able to sell my 'Fanatik' yesterday. Ended up selling it to a friend. He gave me $300 Cdn for it. I'm happy with that. And it'll go towards a new ride.
Speaking of which. I've been scoping out some bikes online. And came across this one....

    http://www.kijiji.ca/v-mountain-bike/red-deer/rocky-mountain-soul-29r/1185677982

It's the type of bike I've been looking for. And if it's still for sale, I'm hoping to look at it today. Thoughts?

I'm also popping down to my local bike shops this morning. I went for a ride with a buddy last night (he lent me his backup bike) - and he was riding his newer 'Scott - Aspect 930'. He let me take it for a quick spin, and I really liked it. It's roughly about 1k, here locally. I may look at one, or something similar.

Awesome that you got the sale!

As for the new bike, what kind of trails are you riding?

Hey guys, so I have tomorrow off work, and I have this sweet Devinci Spartan rental for the weekend. I kind of want to try out some new trails, I normally ride Whiting and Aliso Creek area. Anyone down to show me some other trails around here? (South OC)

Quite possibly. I'll see how work goes first. I haven't ridden much in the past three weeks so I'll be slow as balls if I'm free.
