Put some Silverstar Ultra halogen bulbs in the truck December 6th 2015... one is already dead as of last night. Overpriced pieces of shit...

If I were looking at something new, I'd lean heavily toward the F-150 right now. But the way I look at it is I've got 5 more years with this truck. I don't want payments on a vehicle again so it'll probably take me that long to make that a reality on a new one. Might actually keep this one that that point. With 200k I'll actually be able to get a bed of mulch without spending an hour cleaning the bed later or take it somewhere remote without stressing about every possibility of a scratch.

By then the Tundra may be a good option again, though. If they put a sunroof and the power rear window in a double cab (don't have or want kids so the CrewMax is excessive, plus I want at least a 6' bed), I'd buy one without thinking twice, 14 MPG and all!

They actually advertise on the box that they have a shit lifespan compared to their normal bulbs. I have VisionX bulbs in my Ferd, they seem to be doing well.

    Morning all!

Very true. My first gen was very reliable right up until Toyota bought it back. I'm just looking at it from the perspective of a former service writer. Most of the time when I was working at a shop you started seeing more expensive services popping up at the 6-7-8 year mark, regardless of brand.

Oh, for sure. I knew it'd piss her off before I even said it, but I wasn't in the mood for a lecture on practicality two weeks after she traded for a Mustang. :der:

The brighter they are the hotter they burn, so the faster they eat their filament. Any speck of dust or anything on the glass creates a hot spot that burns them out that much faster; it doesn't just have to be fingerprints.

I haven't even decided on buying a new truck yet. I'm toying with the idea of selling the '84 and taking the Tacoma on a road trip south out of the Rust Belt, trading it in on a used 3/4 ton diesel at some dealership in Tennessee, driving it home, fluid filming it like it's my job, and putting an 8 foot Fisher V on it instead. :notsure:

If you have the time, that's a really good plan for buying a used truck. The trucks down there just don't have the rust we see up here.

    Yep.
Starting in 2017 I've got 3 weeks of vacation, so a road trip to a southern or midwestern state isn't beyond the realm of possibility. And it's definitely the way to go for a used vehicle. You can get ahead of the curve on rust and get some fluid film on there before the truck ever sees salt.
I've been fluid filming the Tacoma since I bought it, but it had 3 years of New England winters before I got it and the frame is showing rust even with the fluid film applications. On the other hand, there's a user here in Maine with a 2011 that has been using fluid film on his since he bought it, before it saw salt, and the underside of his truck still looks brand new; not a speck of rust.

    Morning peeps! Happy Tuesday!

Been MIA for a bit. Went up to Syracuse NY to spend the weekend and visit my sis and her kiddos, since mt bro in law is in and works for the National Guard, so they're living up there for a bit. Took the Taco up. Smooth trip. Saturday morning though, before leaving, went to get my free oil change and was told my rotors were messed up, but were covered until 36K, so dropped it off yesterday to get that taken care of. Was told that they don't put the old brake pads on them if they need to get re-surfaced (which is what they did), so I had to pay for a break job. :annoyed:

Also got in the UltraGauge GB and got myself the Blue. Was enamored with the thought of no wires, but now that I finally got around to "installing" it last night not so sure if I like it as much as I'd like the regular ones that they offer, that are wired. :frusty:

Guess I have to actually play with the app and see what gauges they have and what I like, or don't like.

I use my phone for nav/music so I wouldn't want to be running an OBD.reader program on my phone. I like my ultragauge (gen 1) that I picked up off Pugga. Keeps my phone free. I have a kiwi bluetooth OBD interface too that I used for torque on my track car, but it's annoying having to open torque, pair it every time you get in the car imo. Much easier to just turn the key and have the UG turn on.

Yeah... I'll admit I didn't think about that when I first bought it. Stupid move. Might be looking into possibly trading it with someone, or selling it and buying another one when there is another GB.

As a married man of 11 yrs, sometimes the best idea is to just smile and nod. Logic does not work on the female gender like that.

I'm loving this rain right now, pools getting a free refill top off. I've been losing about an 1.5+in per week to evaporation due to so much sun.

    Almost always.
But I wasn't in the mood to be agreeable. She was being a hypocrite about what I might do with my own money and I was going to call her on it, even if it meant that I was wrong for being right, haha!

Oh I know the feeling. We had agreed not to make non-essential purchases for a few weeks a while back while going through a refi. I suck with money, she won't spend $5 on herself. But I suggested it, she agreed, and I stuck to it. 3 wks later she brings home a faux fireplace/heater..got a deal on it and I do like it, but I said I thought we had agreed no non-essentials. No issue..a week later my brother in law was over and she was all "oh he got mad at me for buying it". FU. She got an earful when he left..and I told her don't ask me again to start handling the finances, since the first time I show some initiative you just disregarded it.
