I'm thinking of selling my 2005 TRD Off Road and moving up to a 2016. I almost pulled the trigger a few days ago but decided to take the weekend to think about it. After reading about all the issues with the 16's I'm having second thoughts. My 2005 is in perfect condition with 100,000 on it. I can still get 18k to 20k for mine selling it myself. The dealer offered me 16k. Any opinions or thoughts about your experiences would be great. Thanks in advance.

Love mine. For me, silence in the "bad" threads has meant that I haven't had the relevant problem.

My take.... some people have had issues, some people just don't like the change in design, most are pretty happy with their truck.

I had concerns after hanging out around here first, but after I read through the problems and understood what was going on, I was okay with buying one. I've got 7500 miles on it since March and I'm pretty happy with it. I do wish it's power band was lower in rpms, but it'll get up and go when you tell it to.

Oh, perfect condition with 100,000 miles on it....... I'd probably drive it for another 100,000, save up and pay cash for a new one then.

My personal opinion...I'd stay clear of the 2016 Tacoma and see how things go with the 2017 model year, or scoop up a newer GEN2 and know exactly what you're getting.

I've had my DCSB with m/t for two weeks now and can't say anything negative about it so far after 2000 km.

I don't have a basis of comparison, as this is my first Tacoma. It's awesome, though.

Just go do a test drive and see for yourself. All of our opinions are crap - it's your decision because it would be your truck. I do recommend not taking the first thing they have on the lot. Taking your time and work with the Inventory Manager to have an allocation built your way, or intercept your dream config before it even hits the port would definitely be the way to go if you decide to go for it.

    I'd get a 2017 and skip the 2016.

Agreed. The tranny factory has finally learned how to fill transmissions.

I'm sure they have combed over the 2016 and outlined all their mistakes. Ok. Maybe half of them. Let's not get carried away.

With a name like Toyota it has to be. When you say the word Toyota it's magical. The seas nearly part.

This sounds like pretty good advice, I bought my 2016 in the hopes that it will last me several 100,000 miles. Its currently my DD, but eventually it will just be for "truck stuff" and spend most of its time in the garage.

I don't know your driving situation, but if it aint broke don't fix it. That being said, I don't have any noticeable issues on my 2016 and I'm approaching 10,000 miles on this puppy.

Well, do you want to spend 20k +/- for another truck and the new truck smell?
Your truck sounds perfect & you even said so (especially if you live in a no salt zone).
I have a hard time parting with 20g's plus my old truck now. But it is your decision on what you want.
The 3GENs - you will either love it or love it a little less. New & Shiny helps ;)

Exactly what I just did yesterday...traded up from '06 TRD Sport Prerunner to '15 TRD Sport 4x4, figured it's the best version of the gen 2s

maybe just test drive several first and see if you will be happy with a new one. some good deals on 16s may pop up since 17s will be hitting lots soon. Only you know what you will be happy with. Don't make any knee jerk decisions or you may have regrets. I happen to love mine, but I also didn't own another truck before buying mine.

100,000 miles is nothing on this trucks OP, I put almost 200k on my 4.0 4R with no breakdown or issues, outside of a few bulb burning and the only reason I traded that 13yr 4R, is I needed and wanted a truck, approaching 9k now with not a single issue mentioned on this forum, no strange noises or anything.
It's always smart to think before spending hard earned $$

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!
