Ok, then your statement is false. The 4-cyl will do just as much work as the 6.

Most people believe in an imaginary sky monster that watches them all of the time.
You can feel free to believe anything you want. Doesn't matter to me one way or another until your belief can somehow become profitable to me, which is plainly is not.
So go believe whatever you like.

I had to get another transmission for my 1978 2wd, the front countershaft bearing failed but it did have 150,000 miles. I heard of other people having that failure. Those were car transmissions and I used it like a truck. The current 5 speed manual was obviously designed for trucks and it's a lot bigger.

99 times out of 100, people recommend the 5 speed manual over the 4 speed automatic due to personal preference. I'm guilty of this. I'm sure that there is nothing wrong with the 4 speed auto... other than not being as fun to drive. If you like that truck you're looking at, I assume it's a 4 speed auto, buy it! Hashtag no ragrets.

I do that too, but the 5 speed manual really is much better with 4cyl. It's not so clear cut with the V6 and the gen 2 6 speed has a problematic reputation.

Toyota should have never offered the 4cyl in an auto. The minute you add anything to it you'll want to pull your eyes out and swish your brain around waiting for it to do something. In a 4wd 4cyl there really is only one option if you plan to mod it. I have no regrets choosing a 4cyl 5spd, didn't feel the need to regear it until I went to 35s, even with 32s and armour it did everything I asked of it. The auto my be convenient at times but in the long run you'll hate it assuming you don't plan to keep the truck in its stock or mostly stock form

Yes my 2006 4 cylinder 5-lug is 100% stock and I like the automatic.

Who the F pays $10k for a replacement transmission in a $20k truck?

The 2013 4-cyl auto access cab is the best deal i've found with low mileage in great condition, mid range of my budget. The very top of my budget would be a new 2016 access cab 4-cyl manual (wouldn't leave room in the budget for mods and a canopy I want)

I was leaning towards auto because that's all i've driven and what I'm comfortable with but considering manual if the gear ratio/handling on steep switchbacks is that much more superior.

The main purpose of the vehicle will NOT be daily driving but mountain trips, getting into hunting spots on steep mountain logging roads with switchbacks, and adding a canopy for car camping. Most trips would look like an average of 250km highway driving followed by steep logging roads, some deactivated with cross ditches. I won't be hauling much weight in the back.
