Keeping stock xm tuner with aftermarket HU

Ok here's the scoop, I have a 09 SR5 with stock HU and Stock XM Tuner (put in aftermarket). The HU is acting up so it's just a matter of time before I need to replace it. I want to retain the XM Tuner I HAVE A LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTION !!!!! The question is if I install a new HU can I retain it? And how to do it? YES I have searched and no one has posted such a thing. The tuner is a stand alone part number 86180-0W032.

Hey dude, I just had my install done with a new headunit in my 2015. My installer could not hook to my factory antena. They put a new XM antena in and it is mounted on my dash. Maybe this will help.

should be able to transfer the subscription to a new tuner by calling XM and talking with them... the subscription doesn't have anything to do with the hardware

 

Yes you are correct. But why pay the $$$ to transfer the subscription if the hardware is still good. I can only transfer the lifetime a total of 3 times.

 

I'm in the same boat as you, lifetime subscription with all of my transfers used up. I spoke with Crutchfield a few weeks ago and the tech said it cant be done. So for now, until something becomes available, I'm running the stock head unit thru a JL Audio Fix86 to my aftermarket amps and speakers.

 

Thanks all for the replys. When I get a chance will pull out radio and check connections. Being an older system chances are it might work by just putting in a new HU I'll keep you posted.
