spidertrax spacer install..does this look right?

i installed the spidertrax wheel spacers on my 4x4 4 cyl truck...are my wheel bolts shorter than you v6 guys? or does this look correct? also i only put one thin line of loc-tite on each bolt. is that enough or should i add more? thanks..

 

The spacer should be flush with your hub. It looks like there is still some space between them.

 

Also, can you do me a favor and measure the width of the lip on the Spidertrax?

 

those bolts should go on alot further they look barely threaded on. how about a pic down from the top.

 

You do not have enough thread to get those nuts on tight enough. Do not drive it like that. your wheels will surely pop right off.

You can replace the stock studs with longer ones that way you u can have the wheel spacers secured better.

 

yea thats what i thought...is this because i have a 4 cylinder and my studs are shorter?

 

No, my lugs didn't look like that when I installed mine. That's not to say your lugs aren't shorter for some odd reason

 

Those nuts are not threaded on far enough.

 

Doesn't look good. I wouldn't run them like that...

Did not have that issue with my 09 DC sport 4x4...

 

You should get them torqued to be on the safe side....

 

^ Curious to know what the TORQUE Specs are on these Spidertrax? I have mine @ 80

"OP" don't drive like that @ all. Mine are all flushed and threaded deep. Thats held on by "HOPE & DREAMS". Which would come crashing down.

I have mine torqued to whatever the airgun tightened them to.

 

i torque mine to 80..still dont know why i have such short studs. oh well, i'm just going to take them off for now to be safe.

 

^ They say thats NOT good and you can actually over tighten them. Thus causing the Studs to break.. Check into that. I know they say to Torque them to a certain point. I just dont know what and did it @ 80..

typically you want to have at least 1.5 threads showing (bolt past the nut) - You might need to put on longer studs!

 

yes the spidertrax instructions said between 70 and 80. I torqued mine to 80

 

thanks for the advice guys! i took them off and will be replacing my studs soon with longer ones.

for those that run into the same problem as me, i did some research and i guess 2005 models had shorter studs.

Hey Guys,

After this was brought to my attention I got a hold of SpiderTrax to see what's going on. Here is their official response with a couple pics.....​

" About a year+ ago we changed the design of the lug nuts that we provide in our kits. We designed the new lug nuts to have a "bulge" as a safety option so they could not be installed backwards and because of this feature the length of the lug nuts are longer and stud will not use all of the threads on the nut. When our lug nuts are fully tightened they have the same amount of engagement as the OEM lug nut. When this change went into effect is when we started hearing the concerns of thread engagement. The amount of thread engagement is actually more with the new lug nut but people didn't like that they could see threads left in the nut. I have attached a picture that shows the comparison of the old style nut vs the new longer bulge style nut."​
