Eh, I'd like to see dyno charts for all of them and compare.

I do think the engine in the truck is a dog without the ETC. If I put my foot into it, then yeah it does what its supposed to. I've seen, driven, and rode in plenty of V6s with better low end than this thing. If they offered the 91 octane tune the Lexus gets, it would probably help quite the bit but then people throw that EPA crap out there which, as Smitty said, doesn't hold much weight when compared to what other vehicles are doing. They would most likely end up redoing the gearing to go with that tune, but in the end it would give the price tag they ask for these trucks a more reasonable appearance.

The new Toyota 86, the rebadged Scion isn't doing much with its "redesign" either. They slapped a few more horses and some torque in there and called it done. I love roadsters and would like to get another one but I might just go get another Corvette when that itch comes back. That is, unless they offer something else with that car. Weighing in at under 2900 pounds, an unlocked ECU would be nice.

All that being said, I didn't expect a jet when buying the vehicle. I still like my truck despite the recent ongoing issues and the fact that its still in the damn bay. At some point, encrypted ECU will be broken, if it hasn't already and then I can do what I want. Of all the mid-size trucks, this is the one for me.

I had one of those, 1987 Isuzu pup with diesel 2.2 n/a, 7 ft bed, reg cab 2wd. You couldn't kill it. Got 29-35 mpg with the 5spd. I think it's still on the road somewhere. Wish I had a fleet of them.

I really don't get the infatuation with diesels. Diesels are a big pain in the rear and would raise the price of the Taco by another $4K. Maintenance is expensive, they are less tolerant of fuel issues..... I'd only buy a diesel if I were pulling heavy trailers often.

I've had a few old smaller diesels and driven many full size heavy duties. The torque and Mpg's are why ppl love them. I've gotten 17 mpg in a dodge Cummings 2500 duelly pulling a packed 30 ft horse trailer down the interstate before. That's about what my Tacoma RC 2wd averages pulling nothing.

the main issue is that the big three charge a way to high premium to get the diesel. I am a huge diesel lover but i just cant see toyota bringing anything over just yet. they arnt hurting from truck sales either lol

Sure, I understand why people love them. I just don't understand it. It's way more expensive to own, it's more maintenance, and it's slower.... especially at this level. If you are pulling a trailer regularly, I see why.

If you take all things being equal, I compared the V6 and I4D on the Colorado. I assumed 10,000 miles a year, $2.00/gallon gas, it would take 27 years to make up the $4,000 premium on the diesel. I used hwy miles (24mpg and 29mpg) to figure this.

I don't see why anyone would really want one in this truck.
