Update.
They sent me back an e-mail and they're sending me a new canopy to swap out with the original one Priority Mail.
Good customer service and quick!

 

Most of my buckles where broken. I contacted softopper for those and some new clamps. They sent me all new buckles and thread free of charge. You do have to re-sow the new buckles in though. Great customer service, they where very helpful.

 

I did contact Bob at softopper once I noticed and he told me I could sew some on and to cut into the webbing. I think he means rip the seam to get the clip through then re-sew it. I may end up doing that or I may just sew a clip on top of the topper without ripping into any factory seams. I'm going to sit on it for a bit and make a move later.

You can also gets removable replacment clips from REI. No sewing or cutting needed. They are a little pricey though. About $5 a clip.

 

Can you show me which clips you're talking about? I'd love to keep everything intact

Got the new canvas today. Not bad, 2 days to ship.
I still need to tweek the positioning and tension, as well as putting some velcro up front(I did install the front snaps),everything else went well.

Guess I'm officially in now....

 

I plan to buy a Softopper within the next 6 weeks, just in time for cooler weather and some fall camping here in the southeast. I really like the versatility, and plan to build a sleeping/storage platform as well with some good idea's off other posts. I've read through the 78! Pages of this post and found the pictures and mods a great resource. There are a number of images with the sides and back up, but only one or two in motion. My impression is the flaps can be left in the UP position while traveling, but wanted to confirm if that is accurate. Also, how do the flaps "attach" when up?

 

Yes they can remain up when at highway speeds. They attach with a plastic snap in buckle.

How did you attach it?

 

It comes with straps that have buckles to make setup and take down a breeze. Maybe 5min after some practice

Not quite sure I follow - I have the velcro mounted to the inside front bed, where the inner flap is. The other (outside) flap, that hangs between the cab and outside of bed is not secured.

You installed snaps on the flap that hangs between the cab and bed? I can't even get my hand back there..

I'll try to get a pic up soon to clarify.
