Apparently a abandoned camp fire was the cause of the fire. Damn shame.

 

On a positive note, @ffdawson is out there taking care of business! Don't know dude personally, but I've read he's a volunteer and a half!

 

an abandoned fire in a no camping AND no public admittance area... double grrrrrr.

if they find the campers, they are going to be getting a BIG bill. 5000+ fire fighters for a week+ ? 57 houses lost, etcetc. thats gonna hurt.

 

I think I drove past this earlier! Mustbe nicr fighting a fire in 66 degree weather!

The vehicle code states: "The load upon any motor vehicle alone shall not extend to the rear beyond the last point of support for a greater distance than that equal to two-thirds of the length of the wheelbase of the vehicle carrying such load."
Example- say the distance between the center of your front axle and the center of your rear axle (wheel base) is 10feet. Two-thirds of 10 feet is 6.66 feet so it would be able to hang 6.66 feet past the end of your tailgate in the down position. At night you must have lights at the end of your load. Daytime a red rag 12" in diameter. I work at a place where this is frequently utilized.
